Default How does 958 3.0 D ride without Air Suspension?

Hi all

I'm considering a 2010 958 3.0 D as a replacement for my 2004 955 CTT but it doesn't have the air suspension or active suspension so I'm a bit concerned that its not as refined as the CTT and doesn't handle like it in the bends?

I already think the performance sacrifice is enough to have to take on but handling may be too much and for £33k on top of mine I don't want to be left regretting the buy.

How is the steel sprung 958 compared?

The V8 Cayenne S is still £10k again here in the UK so the only other performance option is the Hybrid, but I'm not sure on that model given the mixed reviews.

Thanks

Carl

I compare my '13 CD to the '11 Touareg TDI it replaced. Whereas it's essentially the same platform, Porsche took performance, steering, ride, and handling far beyond Volkswagen standards. I take bends/curves/dips/rises a good 15mph faster in the CD than I would ever have considered in the Touareg. Only once did I ever feel a rear wheel cocking, but that was more a factor of a poorly engineerred curve than of the suspension. But the proof is in the pudding. That said, the MY2010 is a 957 actually - in this country at least - and I have no experience to compare the heavier six speed 957 with the lighter eight speed 958.

His post mentions he's in the UK so 2010 would be the first year for the 958.

And I agree 100% with your assesment.

Carl- My wife got me a '12 Hybrid for my 60th birthday and at the time I was thinking, why not an "S" dear??? ....I'm now 25k miles into ownership w/4k of towing a racecar and this car hasn't missed a beat. It's powerful and gets better mileage than advertised... I'm a convert, it's been wonderful!

Thanks CK, I have the chance of a Hybrid for £2k more than the diesel but not from Porsche dealer. Does yours have the active suspension or standard springs?

It doesn't in the UK, or at least didn't in 2010. The one I saw has the switches missing in the console and I read an article saying the air and active really make these cars.

I love my CTT, its hard to let go but the 958 is a huge improvement inside.
