Looking for '09 GTS, manual or auto, CPO or not
I've been looking to buy an '09 or so GTS.
I drove a 6-speed manual yesterday and have drive automatics before. The low first gear and the high numeric rear-end compared to automatics showed about 2,200 RPM at 60 mph. Seemed to need an extra gear.
Anyone have a manual and wishes it was an automatic instead?
Regarding CPO vehicles from Porsche dealers, any thoughts as to cost with or without.
The dealer was telling me $6,000 + parts for a PCNA CPO and stated their aftermarket warranty was much better. Sales manager talking. Left my waders at home!
I'd get a PPI anyway, but really like the Certified Pre Owned extended warranty offered by Porsche. Any thoughts?

PCNA rules state that a dealer is not allowed to charge extra for a CPO. It does cost the dealer around $2k (I think) to get it done, but that does not include any repairs or maintenance that might be necessary to get the vehicle up to CPO standards. And there is no way their aftermarket warranty is better.

i'm curious to hear your thoughts on manual vs auto as I've been checking out some Turbo S (06) vs. GTS (08), both about same price. i recall that i did NOT enjoy the bmw 540i in manual, but i'm curious how the GTS compares...thx.

I drove both 2010 GTS w/auto and 2009 with manual on Wednesday, I was utterly disappointed with the manual transmission on the Cayenne GTS, save yourself the trouble and get the automatic one. Get the manual in a 911 instead
Myself, I will stretch my budged and go for a 2011+ S, whole different P!G ... I mean car.

Tim, thanks for the CPO info. I was thinking it only "cost" about $2,000 or so to go through the process, plus parts. I have PCNA sales rep I can contact for further info.

the gearing is a little high in the manual and on the highway it does rev high. that's the cost of the manual - smooth on the highway, so the extra RPM's only cost gas.
shifter is a lot of fun - 5 years at it now - 2nd, 3rd and 4th are all fun and downshifting is easy AND SOUNDS so good - can't auto that one!

If you like a manual then you'll like it in the GTS. I just was off road for some hiking this weekend and the versatility and fun this truck provides are the best. And no automatic has ever done what I want when I want.

My opinion on 6MT versus automatics..
I previously owned a Touareg V10 TDI and absolutely loved the instant torque though I loathed the transmission. This 2004 had every single "known issue" replaced at the dealer under warranty prior to my ownership to include the transfer case, transfer motor/control unit, and valve body so she was up to the latest/greatest spec at the time. The lexus automatic is a ticking time bomb behind the V10 due to the torque plus the extremely vague shift points. As I've never driven the GTS with an auto, I might be way off base.
I did purchase a white, non-sunroof 2008 GTS 6MT and absolutely love this vehicle. The GTS is my daily driver with some stop and go traffic though not excessive. Go back and drive the 6MT again and try making the 1-2 shift at 3700-4200 RPM at light/part throttle. That makes all the difference in the world. This transmission is butter smooth since changing the fluid to Mobil Delvac which suncoast suggested. Personally, I can't drive the GTS enough as it's that good.

I drove the 6sp MT about 12 days ago around Arlington, VA. It does shift very nicely. Mileage aside, I was wondering long term, which trans would be less prone to needing major repairs. Valve bodies, transfer motor/control unit should much more expensive than a clutch and throwout bearing.
