Just got the new escort passport max. Love it so far. Works just like my old 9500ix but changed the screen to amber which is the exact color of the radio surround. I tried V1 with savvy and just hated plugging it into the obd port. Just made no sense to have it hanging down where i could kick it getting in and out. The lockout of signals is great on the escort in NJ where there is just way to much alerts. The V went off all the time, it never stopped

That all sounds nice, but I think a lot of it is in the gimmick category. A few milliseconds faster or slower response isn't going to make any difference and being able to pick up weak sources from such a long range is more likely to increase false alerts than actually serve any actual purpose.

I'm not discounting their findings, just pointing out that you've always had to take a big dose of "the real world" with radar detector testing.

My plan is to directly wire from the fuse box (left of dash) to near the rear view mirror. Checked out the fuse box, and #51 is unused, and is switched when the car is on. Better yet, Valentine included plenty of useful stuff for this purpose -- including color coded fused wiring to connect to the fuse box with an RJ11 jack, along with a flat power cord (just the right length) with the RJ11 plugs -- to go from RJ11 jack to the V1. Looks like a very easy installation taking < 1 hour, as it appears that the flat wire can be easily tucked in next to the edge of the windshield going up and across to the mirror.

This plan is for a 2013CD, and should be much more user friendly than the Visor mount without the coiled cord moving around. Also, I was always concerned that the visor mount was not the ideal location for detecting laser. No wire taps in this plan, that I know some of you dislike.

Here's the BlendMount URL:

http://store.blendmount.com/blendmou...nne-p1774.aspx

Any comments regarding this plan are appreciated, since it's only a plan at this point.
Phil

The current blend mount non auto mirror does not fit 957 but a new one is due soon, the unit is quality

Except that a low mounted grill position is the worst place for a detector

The higher the mounting location the better

Much more likely to pick up signals sooner, and not have them blocked by traffic, with a high windshield mount.

I've got the dealer installed K40 in my CTTS and it is junk compared with my Valentine and Escort 9500ix in other cars. In comes up short in range and does not filter out false signals.

Meh. I have had a V1 mounted on the windshield right next to the rearview mirror with the vacuum mounts on 2 BMWs since 2009, and no tickets. I also don't have a front license plate mounted on the same 2 BMWs, and no tickets either. The wiring for the V1s is hidden in the trim that runs along the top of the windshield and down the right A-pillar, so you really have to look for the detector. Sure, technically, the mount is not legal; but so far, no tickets.

Mike,

The new one is out -- I have it and installed it -- works with the auto dimming mirror on 958, not sure about 957. Installed it a couple days ago, doing the wiring this morning and will post picture. It is a quality unit, lots of adjustments to get the precise angle's for optimal performance. Once adjusted, it's solid -- doesn't move.

Much better than the visor mount with the cord wiggling around.

Haven't had a front plate either -- for many years, and no problem there, but don't park on Palo Alto streets, because they give tickets. If I am in Palo Alto, I park in a garage where it's not obvious. My wife got a "no front plate" ticket there.

Regarding suction cups, I doubt it's a high priority ticketing offense for the CHP -- more likely an add-on ticket if you get stopped. The BlendMount is an elegant solution, that takes the potential ticket liability off the table.

Thanks Phil, I agree its well made, the 957, non auto mirror "root" is much bigger and he's got it being produced now

We are in business. All wires hidden, other than what you see -- just enough to connect to V1. Wired directly to fuse box left dash using color coded cable that came with V1 (inline fused), plugged into unused fuse #51 -- switched when vehicle is on.

Interesting. I have been parking around University Avenue in Palo Alto with multiple cars with no front plates over the years, and no tickets. Maybe I have managed to avoid the parking enforcers?

The BlendMount is a solution, I am not yet sold on the placement (I would prefer locating the detector to the side of the rearview mirror); the detector becomes one more obstruction to forward view.

The V1 or Remote Display has to be somewhere, and just under the rearview mirror is a good place. The mount is mostly hidden behind the mirror, the V1 has a slim profile, and is high enough, that I don't view obstruction as an issue.

Update: Driven the vehicle, no visual obstruction. Optimal solution for my needs -- very pleased with the result.
