Default Porsche Cayenne Weird Sound

I bought a cayenne. This is a year 2008 GTS 4.8 model. Recently I found out that it has this weird "poop poop poop" sound coming out inconsistently. Took it in to the workshop who does a lot of Porsche, took the guy 2 days but could not figure out what it was. Later invited few more Cayennes to look further into the problem, found out that all the rest of the Cayennes (4 of them) actually has similar sound.

Initial diagnosis thought it was the spark plugs. Replaced all the spark plugs and sound still persisted!

Any Porsche specialists out there who may have answer for this?

Please watch and listen to video here:

You can hear the sound at Sec 6-7, 10, 32, and 36.

Any ideas to fix this will be highly appreciated!

For a "poop poop poop" sound, my first recommendation is always to check your drawers.

NO. Both cold and after the car runs for sometime...

This is a sound coming out from the engine and not from anyway else. And it does not come out in a consistency manner. Sometimes you wait for 1 minute or 2, sometimes sooner.

I wonder if this could be caused by the gasoline that my country has...

You might try the "long screw driver as a listening device" trick to see if you can narrow down where the sound is/isn't coming from.

I would agree that it sounds like a miss fire, have you replaced the coil packs?

Yes, I have replaced the coil packs, changed all the spark plugs, and also the fuel injection but still the same... In any case, it does sound like a back fire. Any other ideas ?

I think this must be a common issue because otherwise I can't imagine how all the rest of the Cayennes also have the same sound!

This car is 5 years old. Anything that should cause this due to the age of the car? It actually also sound like some air flow going through a hose ...

I have a 2008 GTS 6 Sp Manual that does the EXACT same thing.. no CEL and no soft codes found when using durametric. Plugs replace at 52k prior to my purchase, coils are -06 as verified last night. I pulled a few coils and did not see any visible cracks (apparently they don't have to be cracked to be faulty). I was leaning towards the issue being in the PCV system. I opened the oil cap with the engine running and the car nearly stalled. I plan to break out the stethoscope and further attempt to track down the sound further. Mine is pop pop pop when you first start the engine regardless of engine temperature. Performance seems to be just fine as does the idle quality/stability. I agree, the noise does not sound "normal" especially when others report no noises..

Dear Switchfoot614,

Yes, my technician has done almost eveything that you mentioned in your post. Please let me know if you found a solution to it and I shall do the same.
Is there a Porsche specialist in Houston that maybe worth taking a drive to let them have an opinion about this?!
Cheers,
GT
