Default oil overfill?

I just changed the oil in my 04CS. I only removed the lower drain plug and changed the filter. Dumped in 9 qts of oil and checked the level and it is reading over the max. I have driven it without it throwing any codes and it is not smoking. Should I just leave well enough alone or try to remove some oil someway. Thanks in advance.

I would guess you're maybe a quart or a little more overfull. To be safe, you could pull the rear drain plug, since that will only drain a little oil out, and might put you close to where you need to be.

Draining both plugs is always recommended. It will take 8.3 quarts with both plugs pulled and oil filter changed. You could also pull the filter housing and put it back on as that will only drain a small amount of oil as well.

Good advice in the thread. I would add that this is a condition you very much want to avoid with a DI engine as the excess oil gets whipped up and blown out through the PCV system. Some of it will end up baked onto your valves. If you pay someone for oil changes, warn them beforehand and check the oil carefully. Maybe even suggest that they undershoot by a bit and you will top off later.

Sorry I did not notice. I guess the bot post was deleted but the thread was still on top?

The bot is right about one thing, I do like car ramps. If you have trouble keeping them in place (pushing them around when trying to drive onto them) you can attach a length of nylon webbing or rope or what have you to the ramp, such that the car drives onto the webbing first and that tethers the ramp to the car.
