Default OT: What is it with the V1 and Audi's???

(V1 radar detector btw)

Returned from another trip down to Fla. and passed about 4 or 5 Audi's traveling in the right hand lane grouped w/in a half mile of each other. My V1 was going ABSOLUTELY NUTS for about 5 - 7 miles while I caught/passed them. Judging from the traffic it may have not been just the V1 that has issues with them. Once I got about 1/4 mile in front of them the V1 acted normally.

Thank dog I was in a section of road w/ 3 lanes or I might still be stuck behind them....

Anyone know what it is with the Audi's?

Yes, LCA (Lane Change Assist). I had to change the settings for my V1 that is in my 2012 CS with LCA.

I figured it was adaptive cruise control. I've run into it with other car types too, but only on the highway which is why I figured it was the cruise control.

LCA makes sense though.

Nice thing about my Escort 9500ix it learns lane assist and cancels it out. Sometimes in rural areas I get real annoyed with my V1. It's time Valentine does an update with some type of filter system, it's still a great detector (good range) but they haven't updated it in over 10yrs.

LCA does trigger the "K" band on the V1 with an arrow pointing to the rear. Called Valentine last week and decided to do an upgrade since mine hasn't been updated in about 10 years. They mentioned that you can de-activate "K" band as one way to stop the LCA false alarms, as this band is only used in Texas. The current Rev of the V1 also provides a filter that stops speed detectors false alarms (speedinfo.com) that are installed mainly on freeways (CA has lots of them) for traffic monitoring purposes. V1 gives a quick alarm burst when you approach one of these sensors that lasts about 1 second -- but at full signal -- scary until you get use to it. Company is located in San Jose that provides the product.

The thing about V1s is that they come from the factory with POP activated. Most detectors have the ability, but you must enable it to use it. Its useless anyways, so go to V1 website and look up how to disable it. That will get rid of most of your false warnings to include the Audis. Trust me, I made the mistake of buying an S5 once. I fixed the problem with this method. Cheers.

My previous car had Adaptive Cruise Control and it used to mess with V1 detectors all the time. I'd notice on longer trips, when I had the ACC turned on, that whenever I was cruising in the middle lane people would overtake me on the left and then hit their brakes as soon as they pass me. I finally realized what was going on when a buddy and I went out for a cruise. He had his V1 and whenever he passed me, and I had ACC turned on, his V1 could light up. Never happened to Escort only to V1. I could use my Escort while the ACC was turned on without any issues.

Thanks guys, I'll look into the V1 settings today. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure TN still uses K band too (local LEOs and some Sheriff depts) , I'll double check that too.

FYI: From http://www.radarbusters.com/kbandtestingarticle.cfm

K-Band Testing
(24.0 to 24.25 ghz). K-band was introduced in 1976 and currently this is 60% of the traffic enforcement radar used by police in the USA today.
From: http://www.radarbusters.com/popradartestarticle.cfm

POP Radar Test

MPH Industries first introduced POP radar technology (also known as the Super Bee) in its radar guns in 1999 as a way to defeat radar detectors. Today MPH's radar guns while operating in POP mode, can defeat over 85% of the radar detectors in use today.

POP mode works by sending out a quick burst of pulse radar at approximately 67 milliseconds. MPH Industries admits that while in this mode, that the displayed speed of a vehicle may not be accurate. They recommend that the officer only use this mode to obtain an estimate of speed from the target vehicle, establish a vehicle tracking history, and then switch to normal mode to obtain the exact speed.

Therefore POP mode is seldom, if ever used by law enforcement and should not be a major concern as an "important feature" in considering your radar detector.

In fact, most radar detectors that have the POP mode have it disabled by default, as activating POP on detectors, opens it up to receive a false alerts.

Here's the link to Valentines solution: http://www.valentine1.com/v1info/tra...tor_filter.asp

Essentially turning "K" off. From what I have read, local law enforcement may still use "K", but CHP doesn't. I don't know what choice we really have if we use LCA as the beep every 10 seconds or so will drive you nuts. Also, where I drive, there's lots of those speed info devices that use "K".

Seems to me, Porsche should have thought about that, and used some other frequency for LCA.

From what RadarBusters says in the link I posted in # 11 POP isn't used much for radar (in speed control).

I used the info in your link on V1's site to disable it, thanks.

FWIW, my s/w vers. is 3.872 so I wouldn't be able to disable the Traffic Flow feature unless I sent it in for their $99 update. Since we don't have it here and haven't run across it yet it's not worth it for me. However I have disabled the POP feature.

Thanks for the info guys.

Up here in Washington State the majority is K & Ka band, been a long time since I ran into a cop with X band. They also have a lot of Laser guns too. I have the sensitivity of the X band turned down on the Valentine and completely off on the Escort. I can't find a way on Valentine's site or in the manual to completely turn off X-band, only seems to be used up here anymore in Burglur alarms and automatic doors.

Try this link to Valentine's site. Follow the instructions shown above the chart to disable any given feature. (X-band is feature character 1)
