All rubber bushings will deteriorate over time and will eventually need replacement, however the lower front and rear control arm bushings seem to be the major culprits from my experience.

If you press out and change just the bushings on the front control arm you should check the existing tie rod end for wear, otherwise change the complete control arm which comes complete with a new tie rod end.

My 08 CS had the clunk when going into reverse. Dealer said it was the transfer case and replaced it under warranty. Seemed dubious to me, but it no longer clunks.
