BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!!!! Holy cow batman, PCA should start a PIG class! My times were 3 secs slowed than the 911's and 6 secs slower than the built 914's.....unbelievable handling characteristics....PSM ON, FRT tire 34, REAR tire 39 ran the course in second flat out...Way to much fun! RALLY CROSS NEXT

Very cool! What tires were you running?
Did you try with psm off also?

Fwiw when I autocrossed mine I ran PSM off because it starts in 1st gear instead of second and tends to run a gear lower than usual.
I also removed all the headrests and ran with the rear seat folded flat to keep the COG as low as possible.

Woohoo that was a blast.
There were 35 of us in the class total with one other Cayenne (2 month old GTS).
It was a good day where I managed to get 4 runs at each station and 5 runs through the whole course. Unfortunately their timing system kept messing up and I only got 2 actual values from my 1st (69.426) and 3rd (67.143) runs. I'd really like to believe the 46 something and 56.939 times from my last two runs, but I think the laws of physics would have something to say about that (and when the instructors ran their cars (335, Boxter, and a 997 were the ones I paid attention to) they were just barely breaking under 60 seconds). Other interesting stats were:
The best setup for me was PSM off, Sport on, and keeping it in automatic. Sport + Manual was just too twitchy with the throttle and I couldn't feather it very well due to all the torque. Manual w/o Sport worked OK but I had a few cases where it got stuck in 1st and screwed everything up (I've noticed it not recognizing shift commands on the street too). With PSM off the thing actually likes to hang it's rear end out when you find that sweet spot which scared the crap out of me the first time since I was only expecting understeer.
Obviously it was an issue of driver skill, but I got better times than some of the 911s out there.
Between the Cayennes I seemed to be the student and instructor favorite. They liked the low end torque, but also because I was tossing it around as best I could (since the whole point for me was to find my limits in it). The GTS driver just wasn't really being aggressive with it which was a shame (and then he bailed halfway through our work assignment which was pretty uncool).
I have no doubt that PASM, Air, PTV, and PDCC would have made it that much more (couldn't tell on the GTS ), but I am just amazed at how well this thing handles without all that stuff. I did find that I had to add a lot of air to the tires since I was on the base 18s. I was all over the side walls in the morning so I put in an additional 7 in all four tires at lunch and I think it had a great effect in the afternoon. I probably could have stood to add another 10 or so in front, but with that tall of a tire I'm not sure any amount of air would have been enough to deal with all that 6000+lbs bearing down in the hard braking.
I have the vision and the aggressive manner, but I kept braking too late. I never did get a good (in my opinion) run around the skid pad.
On to the pics!

- 32.6 MPG to the event
- 12MPG at the event
- 34.0MPG going home (still being heavy on the air).
- Max longitudal force was -0.7g (hard braking)
- Max latitudinal force was 1.1g
- Only 3 cones killed and no missed gates.

Back in '04 we autocrossed my friend's Cayenne S. I beat half the field of 100 or so cars with it. These are impressive machines, though I can't think of a way to kill one's tires faster...
On one run I took along some friends...
