Default Stiff stained leather on front seats ...rain damage or what?

A Cayenne I'm interested looks clean except for an unusual stain pattern on both front seats; a line extending across the seat leather separates the dark discolored area from the normal, and the dark areas are very stiff. The stains and stiffness are mirror image L and R (see attached pic). I've never seen leather in this condition before. It's directly under the sunroof so my first thought is that water puddled on the seat and sat on the leather for quite a while. I didn't notice any other staining nearby. Anyone seen this pattern before? Any thoughts? Should I look deeper for more water damage? This car is at a reputable dealer who has offered to re-cover the lower seats.

If they would recover the seats, I would also want to look underneath the seats.
The battery for the car is located directly under the drivers seat btw.
You want to make sure no water ended up sitting in an unseen area.
Make sure that the heated seats are still in working condition as well and that all functions of the power seats including lumbar support work.
The cup holder slide also looks a bit strange, does it slide easily?
Stitching on the center rest looks darker than it should be.

I bought some goldfish for my kid, and the bag leaked on the passenger seat, making a similar small hard 3" area. It was only there for 30 minutes. All remedies failed. Leather texture is now permanent. Check for other damages. You could soak the remaining areas to make them match!!!
