My harnesses also looked like that. I just replaced them both for less than $90.

You can find them at suncoast:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/95563123910.html for bi-xenon or
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/95563123900.html for halogen

or sunset imports:
http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/au...omponents-scat

no affiliations.

Good luck.

Recently replaced both headlight assemblies and the wiring harness that goes to them for this same reason. One night the head lights flashed real bright a couple of times then went out completely. The wiring insulation was brittle and coming off, shorted out!

Doing a little googling found the mid 2000 HID headlights the manufacturers used the same wire as on normal headlights and they can't handle the higher temps long term. Especially on BMW with HID.

Got the Assemblies for $420 each form the OEM, Valeo, on Ebay.
Got the harnesses from ECS Tuning for $30 each.

Same question here. I can't seem to get mine apart and I don't know if I need to just man up and pull harder, or if there's trick to it..

small flat blade screwdriver inserted in the release clip, insert the screwdriver the same direction as the wires run.

2006 cayenne s with the same issue, no insulation left on the passenger side.
