Default Cayenne - good SUV?

folks.......Im an owner of 2 928s and love them.

Im in the market for a good SUV that can handle Canadian winters; lots of snow and ice with -30c temps.

Does the Cayenne make a reliable and go most anywhere in such conditions?

Looking at a used GTS

I live in Fernie very near you, and as you likely know, we get lots and lots of snow. I have an 05 CTT with blizzaks. It is as good as just about anything out there. I have a lifted 97 landcruiser with ice radials that I have not even bothered starting this winter. So far we have had about 7 feet of snow and I have had no issues with deep snow, packed snow, ice, slush etc. As for reliability, I have only put on about 6000km with no problems. The previous owner (from Edmonton), claimed it very reliable except for the coolant pipes and coils.

It has 156000km. I bought it at 150000. A little more than I wanted, but it had no stories, a history and was owned by a car nut.

40k Miles on my 2010 now with no significant issues. The only gripe I have is the gas mileage but that's what you get with a 400hp+ SUV. I like the look and growl of the GTS.

Is it true some of the cayennes develop premature engine wear like a ticking/ knocking sound from the engine?
A 928 owner here had to have his Turbo engine replaced under warranty due to this.

Hello Malcolm,
We have a 2012 Cayenne with Air suspension and V-6.
Just over 66,000 km so far, most of that through Canadian winters, including Southern and Northern AB, SK, and the mountains in BC.
Very happy in all weather conditions and driving situations.
With a GTS, I can only see joy in your future driving experiences!

Hey Malcolm,

We've put about 6K Kms on an 08S since August and have enjoyed every second. It's nice to have PCar performance even in the winter, with the bonus of 7700lb towing capacity and high ground clearance for deeper snow.

The Cayenne is an excellent SUV, and great in winters. As any car in snow/ice you'll need a good set of winter tires.

As for reliability I think it is very reliable, as long as maintainence is regularly done. I used to have a Mercedes GL450 SUV, and surprisingly the Cayenne has been more reliable! The MB kept having so many electrical issues.

Either way, the GTS is a great choice. I've heard it drives like a sports sedan and sounds like a sports car! Good luck
