Default 2006 option question - Sport - Normal- Comfort

I saw this on a 2006 for the first time. I have been looking for the "perfect" one for about 6 months now.

I have seen it in many/most 2008s but never earlier.

I guess the Sport-Normal-Comfort only comes with the adjustable air suspension?

Isn't it supposed to adjust the damping and engine mapping + shift points?

How much of a maintenance issue is the adjustable suspension over the long term? Does it hold up well? Is it extremely expensive?

A friend had an X5 that required maintenance at an exorbitant price and I just thought that would be a great thing to avoid. I plan to keep it a long time and am looking for reliability. I thought the Sport-Normal-Comfort would be a good feature to have though.

Is 22 mpg realistic on highways? An owner claimed he could get 24. A salesman said he has NEVER seen 24. He has personally gotten 22 though. And 32 on the new diesel.

The controls you see are part of the optional PASM with air-suspension. It was standard on first generation turbos, and optional on the S model and the V6. I've got it on my 2004 Cayenne S, and it's a nice option to have. I typically drive with my car in the "low" and "normal" settings. Comfort is nice, especially on a road trip. Sport is a bit harsh, and I rarely use it. First generation Cayennes didn't have a sport button to adjust the engine mapping and shift points. This can be achieved by deactivating PSM.

My air suspension has been quite reliable for the last 110K miles. I did have the compressor pump rebuilt, which is a fairly common issue. It's not expensive, and it's actually a pretty easy DIY.

I've never gotten 22mpg on the highway. I've seen 21mpg before, but it's typically around 20mpg for extended drives.

I have had no issues with my air suspension other than servicing the compressor and that was inexpensive. Way better than the one on my wife's Audi.
22mpg on an S? Good luck with that!

I have it on my '04S and i either go low/sport or mountain/comfort for some reason i like the extremes. I only found it as on option on S models of my year on 1 of every 100 or so for sale. Its a must for me... but it is standard on all turbos. Are you stating "imperial gallons" when you stated your mileage/fuel economy question?

Good catch...I think physics would prevent 24 mpg US, but 24 mpg Imperial seems quite reasonable since it equates to 20 mpg US

I got 18.6 mpg on a 350 mile trip. Cruised at 70-80 mph.
In town, 13 mpg regardless of driving style.

Yup, got it on my 06 Turbo S, came standard. Love it. Difference between comfort and sport is night and day. Comfort is way too soft, best for highways and long drives.

Sport is good for almost everything else
