2004 CTT Sounds Very Mechanical?

I've never done it but I can't imagine it's too bad to swap out the bearing, I've taken hubs/axles/cv's apart on previous vehicles and it was very straight forward. I understand wheel bearing failures are very uncommon on the pig though so do the tires first. I was convinced it was a bearing before I did mine.

Just checked my rear tyres and found them to be heavily castellated on the inside edge as shown in the attached picture, will that wear in eventually or always be there?
Picture shows the left side of the right hand tread section is lower than the right hand side of the left hand tread and im told this causes a lot of noise. Fronts are perfectly smooth, am considering taking it back to the dealer and complaining but not sure they will want to know?

My rears were chewed to hell on the inside edge, actually far worse than your photo. That's an alignment issue and failure to regularly rotate them. I had mine lowered and forgot about a realignment so I'm at fault. I doubt the dealer will do anything for you but it's worth a shot.

The dealer actually had a 4 wheel alignment done after their technician complained it didnt feel right when he drove it. Do you know the settings or how i can understand the report they issued for the alignment?
Will the tyres come back or are they gone now?

When checking for play in the hub at the bearing there should be ZERO play. Any play at all and the bearing is on the way out. I also haven't heard of any bearing failures on the Cayennes... But I've only been reading about them for a few months.

I can see how those tires could create some pretty loud road noise. If it does end up being a wheel bearing, they're kind of a pain to replace. Porsche uses a special hydraulic press that removes and installs the bearing on the vehicle (pretty simple). With a standard press, it's very difficult to do, and takes quite a bit of time.
