Cayenne tires?
I am currently running Sumitomo HTR Sport 255/55/R-18 tires on my 2005 Cayenne base. They are what the Porsche dealership in Conchohoken, PA installed to bring the car up to PPO Certified status. I took issue with this because they are not Porsche approved tires. They are H rated and I experience a great deal of lateral g's when cornering. There is also a good bit of cupping which creates annoying noise at freeway speeds. I didn't get anywhere with the dealership so I decided to live with them until they wear out.
When it is time to replace them, what would be suggested as a tire which will provide me with the cornering integrity my Cayenne is capable of and give me good mileage?
Thanks,
Bob

I'm running Pirelli Scorpion Verde by choice, N spec / V rated / 520 tread wear. Top rated on Tire Rack, including two instrumented tests.
Unfortunately need to move to A/S if you value long lasting mileage!

Car should never have been CPO'd w/o Porsche-spec tires. But that horse is already out of the barn. I assume you're again looking for All Season in 255/55R-18. If yes, here's the current list for 2005 base Cayenne:
Continental 4x4 Contact (N-1)
GoodYear Eagle LS2 (N-0)
Michelin Latitude Tour HP (N-0)
If you want to go other than 18" and/or other than all-season, I'll look'em up.

275/45R-19 in
Continental 4x4 Contact (N-0)
GoodYear Eagle LS2 (N-0)
Michelin Latitude Tour HP (N-0)
This is off the Fall/Winter 2011/2012 list. Don't know if they'll update it for Fall/Winter 2012/2013 or not.

I usually buy N-spec tires for my Porsches. However, I like the Conti DWS much better than the OE Conti SportContact 4x4 that was fitted to my vehicle from the factory. It's the best tire I've ever had on the Cayenne.

Any estimate of mileage on the Conti DWS?
What is the difference between the DWS and AWS?
I checked the summer tire box when ordering my CD (19's), will find out what brand tires when I take delivery in late November.

Nokian WRG2. Best tire in 255/55/18 size for the Cayenne. It is V-rated and is the only all season winter tire. I have them on my Cayenne S and they are great. Much better than the Latitudes. The Latitudes are good for stickiness, but the trade-off is that it only lasts about 20k miles if you are lucky.

Just out of curiosity, I checked out that WRG2. I've generally got nothing against asymmetrical tires, but that one looks like it might be noisy Plus, I don't see 255/55R18 on their list. Nor do I see a single 109V. FWIW there are two N-spec tires on that list, but they're both 16-inchers.

I had a set of WRG2. If you are looking for a winter tire they don't cut it. If you occasionally see snow they would be ok. As for noise I cannot remember, but I only had them for a short while before I gave them away to someone who lived where there was less snow and ice. I might be a little biased though as I need maximum traction first and all other considerations are a distant second.

My first set of DWS tires lasted for roughly 30,000 miles. I know it's not great, but it's better than the OE summer tires that came on my vehicle from the factory.
I also switch to a proper winter tire from October through May. I'm currently running Michelin Latitude Aplin winter tires, and I am pleased with them overall.

I would also recommend the DWS. Installed them several months ago and am very happy with the performance. They are not as quiet as a typical tire in the segment of A/S performance tires, but the Cayenne is a noisy vehicle to start with so maybe it's not an issue.
They did well with aggressive driving on this road, 318 turns in 11 miles.

DWS are only $1000ish from TR in a 20"! How "less quiet" are they than the pricier 4x4 Sport Contact? In Dallas we only deal with rain or the rare and seldom sleet/snow. Wet traction is important but comfort is king. My Coopers have had it after 13000mi but they were free. What about Yoko Advan Sport/Bridgestone Dueler Sport? My X5 5.0 has Contis and they rock. ContiSport Contacts I think, in 21" and they are OBSCENE expensive, and proprietary.
