Default Picking up Diesel in 2 weeks: Need to decide on Dealer extras

So after almost 9 months of waiting, my new Diesel will be here in 2 weeks. I went to the dealer yesterday and they oferred me 3 additional things: 5 year tire and wheel warranty ($1,795), 3M paint protection wrap ($1,795) and extended warrranty for 2 extra years and an additional 80k kms ($3,600).

I have searched the forums and done some reading and I am going to pass on the 3M (just don't like the concept). On the extended warranty, I'm going to play that by ear, as I can always purchase it later for only a slightly higher price. Still torn on the tire and wheel warranty though. Its very expensive, but dealer says it covers absolutely everything, including curb rash. Also covers any winter tires and wheels I put on. I have purchased this on past vehicles and never used it so my gut says no, but then agan I've never paid $3k for upgraded wheels before. What's the conventional wisdom on this stuff? Are people generally buying or passing?

Nope
Nope
ONLY if you planning on keeping it and NO if its not a Porsche (not something they brand : as good as" ) which I am sure its not.

These are all additional dealer profit items and should be avoided like the plague

Thx for the advice - sounds sensible. That's the way I'm leaning. Anyone else feel differently about any of these offerings?

Refuse all 3, they essentially cost the dealer nothing. When I bought my Touareg, it was priced $2495 above window sticker because of 3 years coverage for "theft avert, interior protection, exterior protection". I told them I'd only negotiate on MSRP, and had no interest in their "total protection package". They didn't bat an eye, and threw in that 3 years worth of "coverage" at no additional charge.

Cowboys5, - had ours over a year, 46,000 on the odometer.
Didn't get the 3M, and glad I didn't.
Didn't get wheel/tire protection, again, glad I didn't.
Got extended Porsche warranty to 150,000 km (will last less than 4 years as you can see) and hope I never need it - it is insurance in case anything goes south.)
If you aren't going to put extensive miles on the Cayenne, the extended warranty may not be right for you.

To amplify what grohgreg said - When I have come across dealerships which have "already installed it on all our cars" the negotiating point is "what will it cost them to remove it" is their best alternative to a negotiated solution.

Good luck!

I would take the extended 80 kW warranty at that price.
Wow. Porsche warranty prices look to be very close to VW.
I have the same CATA TDI set up in my Touareg. Love it. Best luxury go anywhere vehicle.
Did you get the air suspension? I wish I had it.
I bought the extended warranty, just before the standard ended. I had a few under warranty repairs that would have cost $4k easy.

No, I didn't get the air suspension. This will be strictly a commuter vehicle in Toronto area so didn't think it was worth it to get any performance options and my salesman agreed. I'm going to seriously consider the extended warranty but will live with the car for a while to gauge how long I'm likely to keep it.

Cowboys5, when we purchased the extended warranty, we were told we had until the first service (15,000 km) to do so.

I like extended warranties on these vehicles, as problems that surface can be very expensive. Anyone who owns or has owned the early versions of this vehicle has experienced this first hand.

Normally, I don't get extended warranties on anything -- take my chances, but with a Cayenne, I view a warranty as cost of doing business. Same thing for my new MacBook Pro.

That said, prices of warranties are negotiable, and prices vary. Check with a few dealers. Often, they will discount the price.

I am leaning towards getting the extended warranty. I have confirmed that it is a Porsche warranty and can be utilized at any Porsche dealer in North America. Also, it's a perfect extension of the original Porsche warranty with no extra exclusions and perhaps most important of all its transferable if I choose to sell the vehicle. Pretty good piece of mind and at very least, should help on resale if I choose to sell.

I said no to all 3 (and several others) when I picked up my Cayenne Turbo last week. They tried to scare me into buying them with tales of possibly disastrous and expensive consequences if I didn't get them but I figured it was just extra profit for the dealer so I decided to self-insure...

Transferable or funds returned if not used - buy it!

Same as these guys I would scratch #1 and 2.

The following is not for Cayennes per se, but Porsches in general. Or all Euro cars Porsche, BMW, Rover, Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, ............ if it is not American or Japanese, and in most cases there too, get the waranty.

The warranty - yes. Make sure it is a Posche Porsche Porsche factory warranty only. Never leave home without it. These cars are like sheep - they know when they are alone and they dont like it.

Thx all for the good advice guys. I have just told my dealer I am passing on Tires and 3M, but will buy the warranty (also negotiated a slightly better price). Now, all I need is the damn vehicle! Ready this friday, I'm told. More later.

Just let me add the tires come with their own road hazard warranty, so please checkout the tire warranty in your paperwork when you get the CD and congrats!
