IM starting to think its got another use. Like make its a ballistic spare tire launcher. The holder reminds me of one of this shuffle board stick thingies......I wonder how far you can fling that tire with nearly 450HP behind it.

Porsche does have a small department of people whose sole job is to cut perfectly good Porsches in half for trade shows and various displays. There can be no other reasonable explanation?

I like it. Always have liked the tire mounted outside, on any SUV. I remember changing the tire on an X5. In the mud. I tell you, putting that mud covered tire inside my X5 was such a great feeling! Sarcasm mode off.
Besides, if you want a full size spare, this is the only way to do it.
Suits me fine.

I'll be amazed if Porsche manages to move 25,000 of these things in the first year.

That tire-carrier looks ridiculous. It's too fussy to look minimalist, but too insubstantial to harmonize with the rest of the back of the SUV.
Surely Porsche can afford to staff a Vice President for Common Sense and Ugliness? I'll fund this position if no one else will.

Here is an couple picture of the aftermarket one I installed on my Cherokee.
While I prefer the cleaner look of the tire inside I could not fit the 31" tire in there.
