Post My First Day of Ownership Impressions

Picked up my 2003 Dark Teal/Sand Cayenne S Friday. I was one of the people that thought that the Cayenne looks a lot better in person. I am not a fan of driving anything very big and the Cayenne was just the right size I was looking for in a SUV.
I thought the interior was nice. I like the layout of the gauges and the seats were very comfortable.
I took it for a 2 hour drive Friday night and it I was surprised at how well it blended both the 996 and Suv together. I hit 100 briefly on the highway and it felt exactly like a 911. Went over some potholes and bumps and the Cayenne ate them up fairly well.
Now for the negatives: First time I used my Bi-Xenons the headlight warning light came on and said they were not aimed properly. Took it to the dealer on Saturday and the Techs didn't know how to fix it. The headlights were aimed properly but the warning light wouldn't go off. Have to wait till this week so they can call and find out how to fix it. Hopefully not a sign of things to come!
The dealer had no 20" wheels in stock and no floor mats either. I think if Porsche is going to produce their vehicles they should make sure they have the parts that go with them.
The only thing I didn't like about the interior was the dash. I thought it looked pretty cheap compared to the rest of the truck. I liked the imitation aluminum trim in the truck. I guess from reading other posts I'm the only one.
Overall I'm happy with the Cayenne except for the headlight problem. I think it makes a great second vehicle, although I'm not ready to trade my 996 in for it just yet.

The folks with 2001 BMW M5's had a horrible time with the fake metal trim quality in those cars (delamination and inability to handle scuffs without damage).

Quite honestly, I prefer the fake aluminium trims to the fake (sometimes real but still looks fake) wood that comes with most BMW. It is really futile, but having to live with the fake wood is one more reason for me to get a Cayenne...

I agree. Fake wood is as undesirable as fake metal.

On Friday, I picked up a Lapis Blue Cayenne S with Grey interior and Dark Wood Trim. The dark (fake) wood is a nice contrast to the light grey interior. The Cayenne interior is very comfortable and civilized compared to the X-5 (Nice Ergonomically, Little Style) and the FX-45 (Too much aluminum, terrible ergonomics). The Cayenne seats are superior to either of the above vehicles.

No problems with the Bi-Xenon lights so far. The Bose stereo is the best I have heard in a production vehicle, my wife's MDX has a Bose and it is not even close in terms of sound quality.

My Cayenne has the air suspension and makes a highly desirable difference in ride quality over steel suspension.

The Cayenne has exceeded all of my expectations thus far! More later, with a few more miles on it.

Kevin: Congrats!!! You got a S with Air Suspension? Lucky! Does your dealer have any more?

My dealer had only three vehicles, 1 Black Turbo sold over the phone to a doctor in Connecticut, 1 Beige S, pretty basic, and the Lapis Blue S that I bought. I am not sure why this S had Air Suspension given what I have read over most of the posts here but it does. I drove the TT and the S with air suspension and they handle and feel identical, until you put your foot in it and the TT is considerably quicker. My salesman told me that the S I bought was actually a preproduction car intended for use as a demonstator, but since he could not find the one that I ordered in the Prodcution Schedule he sold me this one. This car had almost all of the good options, except rear heated seats, thermal glass and the automatic window shade (who wants all that anyway). Good luck in finding what you want.

Wow sounds like you got a Beauty... Post some Pics when you have time... I'm leaning towards the TT myself, lots of options just aren't available on the S.. and by the time you fix it up its not that far off from the TT price wise..
Thanks for the info!! Happy Peppering!!!

We ordered them as soon as we got the Tequipment catalogs in. And our winter tire packages arrived less than a week after ordering them.

Are these the Sport Tech's you have? How much do you want for them?

I will be joining you in about 3 weeks. I'm in foreign port currently. I was impressed with my "S" test drive but they did not have a TT for test drive. I will have to keep an eye out for Bi-Xenon issues, along with fogging of lense.

Overall, its a SUV, drives like a Porsche SUV should. If anyone wants "exactly like" a sports car driving they should get a Boxster or Carrera.

In trying to make the interior different than Cars they could have left off the rings around the instrument cluster. Stitched edge would look just as nice.
