I am glad you are an enthusiastic Porsche salesman. But the new Porsche truck leaves A LOT TO BE DESIRED BASED ON THE OUTLANDDISH AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY ARE ASKING FOR IT.
Why does one need 400 plus HP to go off road?
Why does The “S” version require 6 inches between the top of the tire and the wheel well. The truck has no side dent protection. Is Porsche going to pay the owners for all the day to day dings that happen in the real world when you park your truck at the mall or movie theater or at your Porsche dealer ? The truck is not attractive, it is not a head turner, the S version looks very bland, the Turbo is about as attractive as the Mercedes SUV not much better. Dollar for dollar the Volkswagen Touareg is a much better deal plus you get the mandatory air suspension include as standard.
True it is made by Porsche; some people will buy it because it has a Porsche nameplate…. As has been said many times before there is an a--hole for every toilet seat and I am sure it is still true…but not at MSRP.

You are correct! ARO is the parent company. They make some serious 4x4's in Romania and the Czech Republic. They even have a version of this SUV that 4 rows of seats. That is 3 doors per side of the SUV. That SUV might make it here next year. THe C244 is built in Brazil. It has an international Harvester Turbo Diesel (23.4 MPG) 4 cyl 135 HP and 355 Ft/Tq. 0-60 is 8.2 secs (Faster than my V6 Explorer). Dont let the origines fool you. This is a hard core 4x4. They also will be bringing a 4 door 4x4 full sized Pickup next year.

Oh yeah! A former Soviet Bloc Copy of the Defender 110. Yep. Even the 4cyc engine is similar. Also, I just found out that the engine mounts are the same as a Land Rover Defender. So dropping in that big V8 would be no problem.lol

I am curious John- while I admire your enthusiasm I've got to question your credibility. You've never really commented on the "sold out" question- are the cars you mention available for purchase? If so, what does that do to Porsche's claims of having all of them "sold out" for the foreseeable future?
And (to get back to my other question) what did the Cayenne do for you that rendered a BMW X5 4.6's performance as "silly"? Do you really portend that the Cayenne has no weaknessess at all and is superior to every other SUV out there in every respect? If so... well I think you're dreaming and you lost me.
If not why don't you share what you think is better and worse (having driven the cream of the current SUV crop "back to back") and maybe enhance your credibility as a salesperson?

At our dealership, our entire Turbo allocation is officially sold out. If someone wants a Turbo in the next year and they're not on our list with a deposit, they aren't getting one. As for the Cayenne S, in looking at our allocations from January to May production, we have been averaging 6 a month. Of those, 2 per month are available for customers. For example, in May production, we have 5 Cayenne S's. Of those, 4 are earmarked for customers, 1 has been ordered, and is available for anyone to purchase. We expect this to change very soon though, as a lot of people on our list are waiting to see it. They don't want to spec out their vehicle until they've seen it and have seen the various colours and options in person. Our list currently has over 30 deposits, still waiting to order.
In all honesty, I have yet to see a real weakness with the Cayenne. It sounds lame, but it's true. It's fast, it handles great, it performs offroad, it can tow my trailer, I fit in the front and back comfortably (I'm 6'6"), there's room for my dog, I like the styling, I like the ergonomics. If I had to complain about something, I'd like to see more colour and interior options. And some better looking alloy wheels. Also, a V6 version would be nice.
I'm sure that once I've spent some serious time with our demo (taking it home on weekends, taking it camping, etc) I will find something I'd like to change, but in all honesty, with the training I've done on it, I really don't have any complaints yet.
As for other vehicles, like John, I too have been able to sample a wide variety of high end SUVs. What do I like? I like the X5. I don't care whether it's the 3.0L, 4.4L, or the 4.6is. The X5 is a great SUV. It does everything well. My only real complaints are the rear cargo space, and it's lack of offroad ability. Unlike most people, I routinely venture offroad.
I like the Land Rover Disco. But it is severely lacking in legroom. As I said above, I'm 6'6" and need all the room I can get. A little more power would be nice, but if they solved the legroom problem, I'd buy one in a second.
I don't mind the Range Rover. It's roomy, it's comfortable, it looks great, it's drivers nicely. But, it's handling is pathetic. My lifted Jeep XJ that's running 32 inch tires has less body roll in corners. Maybe the active suspension thing they have improves things, but I've never experienced that.
I do not like the Mercedes. Visually, it lloks too much like a minivan. The interior still feels very cheap to me. I fit comfortably, but the choppy ride ruins any comfort I might have. And the lack of a manual shifting automatic (a la Tiptronic or steptronic) is disappointing.
The G500 and the Hummer. I'm classing these together as they remind me of one another. I don't like either. Adding leather, wood, and power conveniences to a military truck is a dumb idea. If Jeep added all that to a TJ, would people be rushing out to buy them? I don't think so. So why to people want these things? Maybe they like the lack of leg room, the lumber wagon ride quality, the gas sucking fuel economy, the horrible ergonomics, the boxy styling. Who knows? I don't mind the boxy styling, they look like trucks, not minivans, and that's a good thing, there's not much else I like though.
I don't like the Lexus. Either the RX or the LX. Both seem like modified Toyotas and feel very cheap and plasticy inside. Performance is a yawn, and the styling in my opinion is awful. But they're roomy and comfortable, so i'll give them that.
I hate the Infinit FX45. I don't use hate very often when describing other vehciles, but I truly hate the FX45. It's so ugly that its good points are totally overshadowed. From the big front end to the too big wheels, the styling is a mess. And how Infiniti gets away with calling a station wagon an SUV I'll never know. I will say this, it rides nicely, and it's fairly comfortable, although the back seat and cargo area is tight.
So there you go. I don't know why Porsche is saying the Cayenne is sold out. It is selling extremly well, and can be hard to get, but it is not sold out. Not here anyway.
As for the enthusiasm for the Cayenne, of course salespeople are excited about it. This is an amazing SUV, and will equal a lot of income for us. And even though I am a little biased, I truly belive that this is the best SUV in it's class.
I know a lot of people are so anti-Cayenne that they'll always find something wrong with my logic. Closed minds really are a waste. And once they get a chance to experience a Cayenne, they'll realize that it really is a great vehicle. They'll never admit that they were wrong, but deep down, they'll know.
To summarize: I like it, many don't, whatever.

Thank you that was a candid and refreshing response. BION I'm not really anti Cayenne- I wish they had built something else (or gone racing in a big way) and I don't like the looks (at least in the pictures) but now that they've made the decision I wish them well.
What irritates me is the "Cayenne is the greatest- all others are silly" attitude and the dishonesty and arrogance of current Porsche management (our car is so vonderful it is all sold out- we make so much profit- how dare you question our decisions etc.). That kind of attitude turns me (and I think alot of potential buyers) off- before we even get near the showroom. And I'm sure you realize even more than I that you don't sell a customer a new car by dissing what they currently own.
