Robert!
Excellent post, you have raised enough worry that I may cancel my order and place one for a T-egg. I currently own my second VW anyway.
TT 8 mpg hopefully thats city what the highway rating?

Sorry, but the Audi appears to borrow heavily from the Cayenne, especially the first picture. Also look at the exhausts.
I guess its just that incestuous VW family!
Is the Cayenne growing on you?

No, but the T-egg is... How about that 3D interior though?
If the P-fish were longer/wider, less bulbous through the sides and corners, had a sweeping rake to the roof, and a better face - but that Audi's face is a little scary also <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" />

The massive amounts of cheap plastic used inthe engine bay and the amazingly cheap plastic used inthe interior
At CostCo the other day, approaching the crate full of empty containers to carry my purchases home in, I thought to myself "wow, what a great bunch of boxes, there are so many good ones to choose from!" another gentleman walked up and exclaimed: "can you believe this crummy bunch of boxes?".
so here is my 1st Q: is the cheap plastic the same as used in other Porshe models or say, as in my Wrangler or Lexus? Is it as cheap as Honda Element's plastic or better?
Here is my 2nd Q: What kind of milage will the S get? According to the dealership the Turbo gets 8/9 mpg, and they expect the S to get “around 18 mpg”. However if you notice in the Cayenne video toward the end, the specs for Fuel Consumption are as follows:
Fuel Consumption
(liters/100km) in accordance with
1999/100/EC
Turbo / S
Urban 21.9 / 20.9
Extra urban 11.9 / 11.2
Combined 15.7 / 14.9
What up?

Elvis, Robert is 6'9"... "The back seats are useless" umm if your 6'9" I could see how that could be a problem Just curious, what would have enough room in the back seat? My being a foot shorter than you, I don't see it being useless.... Great analogy on the boxes Elvis... Im confused... Robert have you looked under all of the hoods of cars lately? I don't think they are putting solid metal covers over the engine, like they did back in the 70-80's in most American Cars, the LIGHT Plastic covers the engine, I don't think it was made to have a cheap look.... one last thought if your spending $100k on a TT do you think that 8 MPG is going to turn a person off? I have a feeling that isn't going to phase the $100k car buyer.

the cheap plastic was on par with the honda element. Hey, plastic inthe engine bay of a V8 is very Audi-ish. Sure its like celophane over a container chopped beef. Nice and anaesceptic( I know I cant spell) it serves as yet another layer to keep you away from your engine. Its like cheap make up on a model.....she really doenst need it but since everyone else is doing it. She feels she has too also. Yeah I may be 6'9" but the rear seats still only had 3.5" from the front of seatpadto the back of the front seat(and the seats werent all the way back). You dont need to be 6'9". The interior is roughly the same size as a Jeep Cherokee. Funny, when the Pag rep told me that the TT gets 8 US MPG cityand 10 Hywy US MPG and the S gets 11US city MPG and 13 US MPG, I believed them and when I the conversion of litres and 100 clicks on my trusty HP 48SX that what I get too. I think that there are alot of people that will LEASE this truck and see what kind of crappy mileage they get, They will quietly bitch about it and then turn inthe truck at the end of their lease and get something that gets reasonable gas mileage. Not everyone MUST be the first person on the block to have a pepper just so they can have bragging rights. That what you guys sound like to me. Kinda sounds like you guys are trying to find things to back up your decision about being the first to get your pepper , even when its starting to look likes it goes agaisnt all logic. But, I hope you get it because we need guinea pigs like you. We need to watch how your pepper interacts and survives inthe real world. The more data points we all get on the reliability of this truck will help others make logical decisions.
But, the leather on the white and black TT's they had wasnt any better and the full leather package on any 996 and I think we all know how thin and crappy the stock half-cut hides PAG is using these days.
But, the base interior is still better than the X5. So, if you had an X5, youll be happy. But it seems to have less cargo rom than the X5.

Just came back from auto show and have to say it is nicer in person than all of the info sent to me by Porsche, but think my wife will be getting the gx470 or xc90.
I had fun standing around and watching a lot of the Porsche people cringe when seeing it for the first time. It was also very interesting listening to the comments. In ten minutes I would say 75% negative....

Hmmmmm. Ok, I'm going to add a counterpoint to this discussion thread. I saw the Cayenne tonight at the LA Auto Show (courtesy of Porsche, I should add, you get a free t-shirt too if you fill out the card in the mailer that came with the courtesy tickets) and I liked it. I'm 6'0" and didn't have any problem fitting into the car. The rear seat wasn't cadillac size but I wasn't feeling cramped sitting in the back. The pics posted here make it look tiny, so I'd want to check the rear seating room again. The other cars that are on my list of comparables are the Volvo XC90, the Taureg, the Infiniti FX35 and FX45 (nice cars!), the X5, and the M350. IMO the Cayenne kicks butt on the X5 and the M350, the lack of soul in those cars is palpable. The Infiniti FX cars are extremely nice but I know nothing about them other than what I saw today (3.5L and 4.5L engines, $32K entry for the 35, to $57 or so for a fully loaded 45). The XC90 is great and has that needed third row of seats but the cockpit is a bit spartan and has the unpleasant feeling of a bit too much vinyl on the dash. That leaves the Tuareg, which the VW spokeswoman at the show claimed would be available in June. It starts at about $42K I think, vs. *I think* about $52K for the Cayenne S, with the Porsche's V8 about 70 HP more than the VW (I'm going from foggy memory here). So the Porsche has a stronger engine and slightly better styling IMO, plus, you know, it's a Porsche . Is it worth the difference? If money is not that big of an object, definitely. If I'm stretching at $45K, I'd be looking at the VW. If I need to seat 7, I'm buying the XC90. The thread here could be right and Porsche may not get the commercial success it's looking for, but this new "sports car" utility vehicle segment is getting pretty hot and I wouldn't count out the Cayenne yet. The performance figures are too good, because if you want sports car acceleration and handling but need a small SUV size vehicle for people and luggage, the Porsche is clearly way ahead of its competition.
Just my $0.02.

actually, the VW V8 has 310HP @42K Nearly Loaded with air suspension, the S has 340HP at 56K withOUT optional air susspension,,,,,,Hello????? whats wrong that this picture folks?
I know that I could easily get 30HP out of that VW V8 by doing only minor tweeking.

Aston AR1: we spoke at length w/ Clair Cook, the GM on the project; she wants 250K for it and needs 66 orders to go to production. No roof, only a tonneau. Absolutely gorgeous.
Cayenne: i liked the outside, but it is way too small to be of use to me, inside is tight everywhere; i cancelled my order.

Cayenne: outside looks ok, inside is just too small both people space and cargo space to be useful. i cancelled.

Watt, how did you like that gorgeous white leather intereor......all I ask is that when I die. That my Casket has the same white leather and stitching design.........so nice! Sigh!
BUT, that being said. for 250K you would think that they would install a better head unit thant hat C220 Becker radio. Which is the exact copy of the radio that is in my Boxster.
