The Chilli Dipper ad budget could have made a big dent in an elite racing program
Not only did Fast Lane Freddie bet the ranch on his pride-and-joy SUV, but now we have to endure the waste of money advertising this thing. Every dollar spent advertising the Chili Dip, is a dollar not spent building back Porsche's racing heritage. I was reminded of this reading the excerpt from the 60 Minutes piece on Shuey.
[quote]On the other hand, Ferrari doesn’t spend a dime on advertising. Italian-born Andretti says the Ferrari mystique - and the Schumacher success - are all the advertising it needs.

Who ever said Fiat's purchase of Ferrari was bad for the prancing pony?

I have an idea. Let's have a contest to see who can come up with the most ways to say the same exact thing in the most number of ways. It'll be called The Beating The Dead Horse Contest.
Blah, blah, we get it. You guys don't like the Cayenne. Porsche have stopped racing temporarily. Everyone understands, and posting the same cmplaint once a week isn't going to make it any less true. It's all been said before.
*yawns*
If the Cayenne bugs you guys that much, just ignore it, and be happy that the money Porsche makes with this thing will help to fund future racing projects.

No one has said the Ferrari acquisition was a failure or bad for Ferrari. I suggest that it is "the exception that proves the rule". The longer Porsche can stay independent the better chances there are for us to get sports cars we like (IMO).
& btw, Ferrari has a significant advertising budget, it simply shows up in different ways & places than most car companies...

Hi MPM
The number I recall reading was an ad budget of $10,000,000 to launch the Cayenne.
Certainly not lavish by automotive standards.
But you're right, that would buy a lot of the engineers' time that they have been so deperate for.

Only $10MM? Hmmm, I would have thought more since it is showing up in every magizine and TV is sure to follow.
Oh well, not sure why I'm having such fun digging at Factless Freddie's Flub, but something about it feels a responcibility as a die hard Porsche fanatic. Actully, I think it was the U Penn speech that put me over the top.
Have a great weekend, Mike...

I think the most they've ever spent is something like $15MM.
We just see it all. they've figured out how to target us pretty effectively.
Maybe you should talk to whoever does their planning.
And finally, I'm frankly wondering when you're going to run out of alliterative words to go with "Freddie". Here's one I'm taking away -- Faux Pas Fred.
Have a good one too.

A new Cayenne, huh?
I don't know if I want it... I'd have to put up with all the 928 guys offering to buy the engine.
Actually, if I they gave me one, I'd do the Cayenne Moderates Grand Tour. Get a couple of my fellow wait-and-see-ers, and we'd do a lap of the US of A, visiting all the most vocal Pepper Bashers, and let them drive the car.
We'd file updates and reactions on Rennlist of course.
We wouldn't even make the nay-sayers eat crow or their own words. Just a dinner of catfish.
Actually, I like this idea. Maybe we should pitch it to PCNA.

After listening to his interview on Car Crazy this AM, I have concluded that Fred is not evil, stupid, or an ahole. He sounds alot like a decent businessman to me, making reasonable analysis, addressing his Lime Rock crash well, respecting the leagacy of Porsche and the loyalty of its owners. While some might argue PCNA could have better talent at the helm, I can easily imagine having alot worse, too.
So Mike, get that proposal drafted, I'll pick you up at Hartsfield, we'll take it to PCNA direct. If we pull it off, I don't know what will be harder, getting a sabbatical from work, or convincing mpm, FF, et.al. to take an "objective drive" - maybe they'll send along Hurley as a chaperone (there's room) - that might help. We'll call it the "C Outreach Program for Special Cases". I guess our challenge will be if we can justify it based upon projected sales yield.

great name.
though I do think we should present PCNA with a couple of options. How about "C.A.T.F.I.S.H." =
Cayenne Attitude Transition For Intense Schwab Haters"?
Hurley will certainly give the program starpower. I did PDE and he was our groups instructor. Great driver obviously, but I don't know if he'd be a lot of fun for two weeks. Maybe they'll fly him to each problem case, and we'll drive.

Of course we can justify it. all that negative bitching has to be offset by at least the equivalent of a couple of million dollars in positive publicity. This is a no-brainer for PCNA. (How many Basher-brains are racing with that "no-brainer" statement right now)

If you can get 10 F words in a row, we'll start the outreach program in MA with you.

I fail to fathom Fallacious Freddie's fascination to finance and fabricate this fish-faced freighter. This fuels a filibuster by the family faithful who fear the finish-line is fading into a footnote.
Oh, and the B stands for "Bambino", as in "curse-of". Maybe this is the year...
