2008 Cayenne S spark plug diy

Do not use any thread locker on spark plugs.
I always use anti seize grease.
Spark plugs come in a couple sizes, 5/8"being very common. Just double check when you order the plugs.
Spark plug sockets are not normal sockets. They are deep, and have a rubber insert to hold the plug in place while it is being installed.
I don't recall the torque value for the cayenne off hand, but it should be in the neighborhood of 20 lb-ft. In the absence of a torque wrench, tighten by hand, then add about 1/2 turn with your wrench. It's not much.

Thanks for the replies. Is there a "standard" spark plug socket that I should buy or do I need a proprietary size for the Cayenne ? This is the first time I have done plugs on any vehicle. I have a Torx set so I am good there.
How tight should the new plugs be once they touch the head ? I don't want to over tighten.

Once the crush washer is fully compressed I give it one little "grrrr". I've never had a plug back out nor have never had trouble getting one out.

A set of these helps greatly (esp on a 993).
(the 3 sockets on the bottom) There are a few strange spark plug socket sizes these days, as I understand it one of the newer BMW's requires a special socket.

You should never use anti seize compound a spark plug which has a metal shell plating as it significantly reduces the torque required to fully tighten the plug and may result in thread damage or breakage. The metal shell plating on a plug is in itself an anti seize coating.

Can you use normal spark plugs that you can get online that says suitable for Porsche Cayenne? I took it to Volks dealership and they want to charge me 26 dollars plus tax on one spark plug.
Is this right or I can buy a cheaper one online as I have seen ones that are around 7 dollars to 10 dollars that says naturally aspirated gas.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
thank you

fantastic tool for this job!!!
Go to Lowes and buy this tool set. It made a 2 1/2 hr job take 1 hr. This is a very fine ratcheting right angle driver with all the torx and star drive bits. It has reversible 1/4" and 5/16 drive sockets and all the bits. I juat happened to buy this a couple months ago so I could access the battery under the seat easily, but it was like it was made for this job of changing the spark plugs in my Cayenne GTS.
