Post Porsche mystique

Just an update on my Cayenne S. In the last two weeks I've owned it it already has 1750 miles and only 250 more to go for post break in period. It's been tempting as when younger people see the Porsche badge on it they immediately want to race with you. From ricers to mustangs/camaros and even some suv's. Today alone I had two sport bikers next to me at the red light and looked at the truck enticing me to race...yeah, right...that's why I have the 993tt as well. Anyway just thought I'd share this with you guys and see if any other Cayenne owners get similar reactions. For the most part I say this happens 10% of the time, the other 90% are very positive...even the triple A new car insurance inspector went out of his way to look at the car and compliment it. Hope you have a happy Easter.

Vince,

I would have to agree. Seems like folks want to go out of their way about this vehicle. It is kind of fun, but the price is far too steep. Glad to hear that your first 1750 miles seem to have gone well. I'm up to 251 as of this evening.

I really love driving this car!

Happy (and safe) Easter to you also.

Can you folks do me one favor though??!!!! When you see some fanatic, who is also driving a Porsche - waving madly at you - PLEASE WAVE BACK!!!

Yesterday - coming into town, driving my 911 - I saw a beautiful Cayenne S. I waved like a madman, but the driver simply gave me the strangest look - like I was some kind of lunatic (which I may be ). I watched as she picked up her cell phone - probably to report me to the police...

Please wave back to us - even though we don't have a Cayenne, we are all part of the same "family"..!!

(also - Toby - do you want me to fix the size of your Avatar? I can do that from my end, if you'd like..! And as they say "Nice Pair"!!!! )

Cool

John,

I will take you up on your offer, and your request! I passed another Cayenne S yesterday afternoon while out for some errands. We both exchanged waves. Interestingly, I later saw the same vehicle on the freeway. And it struck me that this was the first time I had seen a Cayenne out on a drive. I have to admit, that after seeing the other Cayenne at speed, the car's appearance grows on me more and more (and I used to be one of the few, the proud, etc.... decrying the Cayenne - guess I've "gone over"!).

And yes, I will take you up on the avatar offer. If you want to ship me the modified file, I can put it out on my file area. Wasn't sure what size you wanted the avatar to be so thanks!

Hi Toby..!

Honestly - I had to do a "double-take", as yesterday, it was the first I've seen one on the road - rather then the dealers lot... I saw it coming from a distance - and frankly, I'm impressed with the looks of it in real life.. The photos do not do it justice - IMHO...

Anyway - it did make my heart beat a little faster... Someday - I hope to have the opportunity to actually drive one, and perhaps be a passenger on an off-road trek.... I'd really enjoy that....

Thanks for posting back!!

Toby,

I also saw a Cayenne for the first time yesterday. It was also a silver one parked behind De Boulle's on Preston. Was that you? I can't believe that in about 1 month in Dallas, I have yet to see another Cayenne on the move. What part of town are you in?

Karl,

Perhaps it was me. We were wandering around in the Park Cities yesterday afternoon doing errands. We live just off of Midway, north of Forest Lane.

There was another gentleman we passed on Lexington who was also driving an "S". We both got onto the Tollway headed north and his is the one I saw at speed. What a beautiful thing. It almost (but not quite) makes me think I can let my wife drive the Cayenne while I follow in my 930 and observe from lots of different angles. Note that I said "almost". Yes, she has a key, but has not yet ventured over into the left seat.

I may never let her drive it..... it's simply too much fun!

Perhaps we need to line up all the Cayennes here in Dallas for a photo op and post it here. Kinda laying down the gauntlet for Cayenne owners in other cities!

John D., I've exchanged waves with several local 911 and 944 drivers. I waved to a Boxster today and didn't get any kind of response though.

Here's to you John and all p car drivers,

I always do the Porsche salute with the lights or wave back no matter which Porsche I'm in. I must admit it's getting rarer you get a reply back in Grosse Pointe--too many people driving Porsches without knowing what the car means...but I'll keep on waving. Enjoy!

Its a shame to see "the wave" or "the flash" mostly exhibited by us "Older" users of the marque. I truly appreciate the technology and power you V8 Porsche guys have- I'm just a little tired of being in the (mazda rx7 class)of watercoolers. Hey, we may have the tools in our car to fix your breakdown one day..
Best regards always- Chris.
