Pre-facelift S
What gives the 2008 cayenne s the extra power 405hp vs 340hp? Is it possible to bring my 2004 S up to 2007 power figures by swapping certain parts and getting a remap?
Does anyone know the finite differences, it's the same engine right?

Goes from 4.5 to 4.8 Liters in displacement. Same block, slightly larger cylinder displacement. You would have to bore out your cylinders, put slightly larger pistons(maybe just rings) on your engine which would be insanely expensive. It's a lot of work that takes skill, time and money.
If you want more seat of the pants horsepower add this in which ever order you would like:
Intakes
New Exhaust
Removal of secondary Cats
Get a tune by a recognized porsche shop.
Headers
I think you could get close to 400 HP with some mods or close enough where you may not be able to tell a huge difference between yours and a newer one.
This is the route I am going as I actually like mine over the 958 version on the outside.

Aha didnt notice the displacement bump. Sounds like what you listed out would be about $4-5k unless Porsche tuning is way pricier than amg. Who's on your short list of vendors for this stuff?

When you say new exhaust does it entail high flow primaries too or just new stuff post primaries? I need to get my Christmas list together because I am not gonna find another pig with this green interior so I have to keep it for a long time!

how would it even be close to that? Are porsche aftermarket parts really that big of a rip off?
I know lobbing off two cats and getting tune is under $1k.
Can an intake really be that expensive?
So what we are talking about is the headers?
I can get Kleeman headers for my c43 for $1200-1500.
Its got to be the exhaust or headers where the gouging is.. otherwise how can it even be $10k?

The 2008 S doesn't have 405hp - that's the GTS you're talking about. I believe that's the same 4.8 engine as the 2008 S but with a different intake manifold and perhaps some software tweaking to make the extra 25hp...
Also, the only Cayenne headers I'm aware of are from SuperSprint. Look those up but make sure you're sitting down when you do...

Ok well maybe i'll just lob off my secondaries and get a tune to improve throttle response. I'm not even going to google supersprint because it will just make me mad.
PS - What about underdrive pulleys.. anyone mess with those?

I have Leistung Intakes and secondary cat deletes on the way home ($740). I have Magnaflow mufflers ($72 each plus $550in labor for install (so $145 plus $550=$695) sitting at the house that will replace the current OEM System. Headers may run $2000, I need to do some research but reckon that would would probably cover it. I saw a thread on exhaust today and a vendor showed new 955/957 headers. Can't find it.
I have not priced tuning for the S. With $1500 in exhaust and intakes another maybe $2000 on headers you can pick up 30+ horsepower or close to it. It will not be GTS fast but it will sound better, have better throttle response and overall be a more fun driving experience than what you have today.
If you want to get crazy add a turbo for $10-12K and easily be closer to 500 HP.
Only way to spend $20K is if you bought a turbo engine and replaced the one in your car.

I once had a jetta tdi (90hp/15- ftlbs stock) tuned up to 200hp/300+ ft/lbs with race injectors, bigger turbo, ecu tuning.. etc and I straight piped the exhaust like a diesel truck.. was way too loud. I put two glasspacks on and it quieted down just enough to settle down my lady. Still ever since (and my girl is game in general) exhaust mods a household sore spot.
I love the idea of opening up the sound a bit since i think its too quiet. What can be heard is nice just low volume. What I dont want is drone during cruise at road speeds. The droning on the highway is what made the tdi un bearable. Even though the sound was viscous when driving around.
