When moderately pressed,to come to a stop, they squeal. When firmly pressed there is no squeal. More of an annoyance than anything. Rotors and pads seem fine. No dash indicators of being low. Happens regardless of how clean or dirty the truck is. I have read that it is common for Porsche brakes to be noisy. Question is, is there an easy fix?

How much usage do you have on your pads? If they're new and squealing, Frank has a good point about bedding the brakes or as I always knew of it, drive-seating the pads.

If they're fairly used, brake dust plays a big part in noisy brakes. I generally hose off my rotors with a strong stream of water whenever washing my truck although I do not suggest you do this immediately after driving home.

Upon further detailed inspection it looks like ther is a rock or some other kind of debris between the pad and rotor on the front drivers side. Anyone have an easy method for getting something like this out?

I replaced my loud oem pads with ebc brake pads and they are infinitely quieter than stock. Dust is about the same.

I've mentioned this on here before, use the EBC Yellows and not the Reds and you will be very happy. They dust slightly less than OEM, brake equal to or better, and cost less.

That's not uneven wear you're seeing - the pads are chamfered like that purposely. Based on the picture it looks like the thickness is fine and the rotors look good too, but hard to tell for sure. The is a bit concerning but doesn't look like a big deal. Assuming they are in fact fairly new (both pads & rotors) I'd recommend cleaning the brakes thoroughly with brake cleaner and then bedding them in again using the Zeckhausen procedure (or something similar - there are a few). That should fix the squealing issue if done properly. If it doesn't I'd suggest taking the pads out and inspecting them to make sure they were installed correctly and perhaps clean off the backs and use new anti-squeal compound if Porsche recommends using that. If it's not recommended, then just clean them up and reinstall based on the Porsche recommended procedure. That'll also give you a chance to really check out that crack too. And finally, if they're not OEM pads or rotors see if you can figure out what they are and make sure they're a good brand. If not, you may want to consider changing them to OEM or another proven brand. Good luck & let us know how you make out!

Adman, two things that bother me with that picture is the fact that the bottom portion of the pad is rubbing on the rotor hub, and the second being the apparent crack. This tells me that either the pads are not the right ones to fit the rotors or the rotors are the wrong size. IMHO, there should be more clearance than what you have leading me to believe that this may be the source of your chattering.

I would remove the pad in question and verify if the crack runs thru the pad or is simply a surface blemish. Next, I would inspect the back of the pads to see if the part number cross-references with your M.Y. Cayenne. Also, measure the rotors to see if in fact they are the correct size for your car.

Guys, Thanks for all of the valuable input here. The score is definitely more noticeable head on, and that is a concern of mine. I bought the truck a month ago, it has only started developing this squeal issue within the last couple weeks. I will upload a photo of the scoring which led me to believe there was an issue causing the screeching. However if that hub rubbing is doing the deed that is probably a more serious issue. Again thanks for the info.
