Default Amp location for an aftermarket subwoofer?

I am thinking about installing an aftermarket subwoofer in the left rear compartment, and am wondering where to put the amp to drive it. I have (and would like to keep) the collapsable spare. Since the woofer will take up all of the space in the left rear compartment, I can't think of where to put the amp.

Any ideas or pictures from your own subwoofer/amp installs would be appreciated...

I put the amp under the middle seat. Total install was a lot of work but it sounds AMAZING. Im running the JL Stealthbox w/ 12w6 sub and JL jx500/1 amp. PM me for more info

Default subwoofer amp location

I put mine under the spare tire. There is plenty of room.

Take a look at this thread http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/c...-possible.html

Scroll down to my post for links on more threads and pictures. I installed the stealthbox in the side compartment of my 2005 CTT. Instructions for the AMP install are in the thread, including wiring instructions which can use the factory wiring harness. Thats what I did and it works fantastic.

I didn't put my amp under the spare tire because I've already found water under there two times (both times frying the stock amp)

I have never had water in the spare tire well. Also part of the install for the stealthbox involves additional waterproofing with spray undercoating under the car around the bolt that holds the speaker. I am guessing this is where your water got in, as there is a hole there. You should easily be able to fix that. No water should get in there.

No I had water before the Stealthbox install. I think it's a common problem... water leaks in through spoiler or upper trunk area and then trickles down into the spare tire well

Thanks for the insights, gents. I think I will go with the under seat location since there appears to be plenty of room there and the wire runs are pretty short.

heypete--Did you really fit a 12-inch woofer in there? Did you modify the box to fit the 12 or is that just a typo and you have the 10-inch 10w6 that came withe the stealthbox?

My mistake, it's a 10w6 stealthbox
