Default How do you get a regular V8 Cayenne S?

Geesh
I just looked at Autogallery and they have FOURTEEN hybrids. Since it sounds like the hybrid is nice but some users would rather have the V8 how do you get one with ONE avaialble at the largest Porsche Dealer in the world?

There's always buying new. Seriously, I'm a little surprised that you've found so many used Hybrids and so few used V8's available, but I guess that's the marketplace voting on which one it's more satisfied with.

Paul
you will love the Cayenne S. My 2011 will be a year old next month and I have over 15,000 miles on it (over 6000 of these are towing miles) it is so much more comfortable, nimble, quiet inside and quicker than the '08 V8 Cayenne we use to have. The mileage is great ( almost 24 running at 70-75, right at 18 in town and 12-13 pulling our Trailex enclosed trailer) Actually find it more enjoyable and comfortable on my back then the 997 was and thus the 997 was repalcled with a Spyder for fun and the Cayenne for daily driver.

Yes the Cayenne S's are hard to find as they are the most popular and get almost the same mileage as the Hybrids and you don't cart 500 lbs of batteries around. Hope you find what you want. Our's is silver with the blue interior

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I agree with f4 plt that you would love the Cayenne S; I'm extremely happy with mine. Based on what you're discovering, the best way to get one might be to special order. The wait is a PITA but OTOH you will get exactly what you want. Good luck.

Its fun to find Old Guy and Mooty being refugees from the GT3 forum. I got my Cayenne S in November after a long and difficult search. It was a brand new 2011. Plenty of V6's available, plenty of Hybrids too, but very few Cayenne S models. The V6 is underpowered at high altitude, and the $$ math on the Hybrid doesn't make sense.

Yes, the Cayenne S is worth it!

Well unless you guys talk me out of it I am LEANING HARD on the X5 M. The x5M is Very easy to get,
and I can get a 2011 with "Trunk Money" and my BMW guy in Bakersfield is just a super nice dealer.
It will be my 5th BMW from him. I can get the 100K X5 M for almost the same price as the Cayenne S.
They are DEALING on the X5M and no body in Porsche gives a rats *** that I want a Cayenne. So I just dont see the way out on how to get the Cayenne S. The X5M is a competitor to the Cayenne Turbo, yet I can get it for the price of a highly optioned Cayenne.
Anyone know anything else in the market I dont know?

It comes down to value over price.
If you want a great deal, get the x5M. If this will make you happy, be happy.
I went from BMW to Cayenne, and am happy with my decision. Every time I get in the Cayenne and go for a spin, whether it is for groceries or a multi thousand klick trip, I am looking forward to the drive, enjoying the drive when I am in it, and happy when I think about it.
I know I paid more than I could have for a similar or even "better" x5, but I am happy with my value.
Whichever way you go, hope you are happy.

Thanks RESP. That was a thoughtful reply. I got lucky I have to say with my First X5. It was the 2006 X5 4.8iS. My BMW guy says thats the best they have built till the X5M. So it wasnt like I was driving around
a 3.0 X5( not saying you did either) but since I got the best X5, I have been pretty spoiled. Great exhaust note. Easy to drive, ammenities up the ying yang, like heated steering wheel, voice recognition,
heated BACK seats, REAR AC. Its just been a great car. So now my son wants it. So I am moving on.
I would REALLY like to get the Cayenne S, but I feel like Porsche is working against me on this one.
Where everything fell into place on my 2009 C2S PDK, all the current is going the other way on this one.

Sometimes you have to go with your gut.
We went from a 7 series BMW (a true autobahn cruiser) to the Cayenne.
I found the x5 a little too "truck" like for my driving style.
Never did have an M, but your 4.8iS was likely a great drive too.
So many choices, so few parking spaces in my garage!
Good luck!

I looked at an X 5 before I ordered the '11 Cayenne S. Yes the X5 is less money BUT one, it is heavier than the Cayenne S and two, BMW does not have any provisions for ordering a towing package and they are actually very vague on its towing capability. I finally got the local dealer ( owned by the same people that own the Porsche store, bot good to work with) to admit that aprox 6000 lbs was its towing limit and they could put on a hitch. 6000 lbs is considerably less than the rated in writing capability of the Cayenne at a conservative 7500 lbs. This is important to me as I tow an enclosed trailer.

Yes the V6 Cayenne is very nice but does not have the torque or acceleration of the "S"

Bought an X5M instead of a Cayenne in '09 because I didn't want the last of the older generation and the technology in the BMW was more advanced. But the ride and handling of the Porsche was superior even then. The 958 is better still. The X5M feels ponderous unless you are in full Sport mode and driving it hard.
It is a better buy in a lot of ways, but you do give up a good bit in handling and range between fill ups (rarely break 225 miles).

If you are considering the X5 for towing, better get the extended warranty, and make sure it covers the transmission. I was lucky and had the warranty when the transmission completely let go.

BTW, we traded in a nice X5 4.8 (latest generation) on the Cayenne S, even though simply replacing the X5 with a new one would have been cheaper. Test drive the two, and you will feel the difference.

What color are you looking for in a Cayenne S?
