Default Seat Heater Can fry Eggs!!

We recently had a cold snap up here in Montreal and I set the seat heater to no.3 on the dial. I swear that within minutes, I could have fried eggs under my butt! I could only imagine what would happen if I maxed out the setting.....butt roast?

Has anybody ever gone past the no.3 setting on their seat heaters?

I set mine on 5 on a regular basis when I first get in the car, and then I tone it down to 1 or 2 once it warms up.

I've never gone past 2 on mine (but I don't live in Canada either). What I dislike about Porsche's design is the switch, it's on until you turn it off yourself. If it was on before you got out of the car it will be on the next time you start it. I'm always finding the passengers side left on by the wife.

This is one of the few items I like the BMW design better. 3 heat settings, turn key off you have to turn the heater back on when you start the car next time.

I don't know what you people are talking about with this 3 & 5, but my ***-warmer is always on one button that's lit up. Otherwise it's too hot.

I'll have my secretary get back to you shortly

Speaking of BMWs & heated seats. The only negative experience with my 530 was driver's seat that almost set me on fire. Thankfully I wasn't wearing a fur coat

I don't drive bare-assed during leg fur season, but nice try, Bill

Happy New Year to you as well

Dennis, how far long after do you turn it down and at what outside temp?

Another disturbing issue with this switch is that you practically have to use your fingernails to rotate the slick thumbwheel; something that's a bit hard to do while wearing gloves. M-B also does it right with a 2-tier switch that automatically switches down from high-to-low-to-off.

I usually turn it down in less than 10 minutes. I only use the *** warmers when it's below 30 degrees or so, which is pretty much starting in September and ending the following June. We use them frequently! My wife uses them more than I do, and it seems like she has it on 3 pretty often.

Depending on the BMW model, it's not just the bum that gets warmed. My X5 4.8is warms the back as well as the bum.

Mine goes to 11.

Seriously, ours is set at 2 and we love it. I have the heated steering wheel, but it's not installed. Previous owner swapped it out with carbon-fiber wheel to match the cf trim he installed. On cold days I question the wisdom of that decision, but it does look great.

while set to 5, you can prepare a medium-rare steak on 'em IMO

I put my on 3, then to 1. I actually like it that it stays on, unlike MB and BMW that I have to switch on every time.
