2012 Buying Advice
I would appreciate some objective opinions. I have the good fortune to be able to buy a new Cayenne. I need to get it in service by the end of the year (biz tax break) and have to decide on the model.
The Hybrid is out - too complicated for too little up-side.
I'm willing to go into the low to mid 80's and so it is either a fairly loaded 6 cylinder or moderate 8. I haven't been able to drive an 8 yet (or a 6, only the Hybrid so far, but I'll get behind the wheel of a 6 this week.
How much cooler is the 8 and is it worth giving up some goodies I could add to the 6?
Then I need to get opinions on the options!-later

I have the 2012 CS. I knew I would not be happy with the V6, but many members love their's so I recommend driving both before dropping a lot of dough, even though finding a v6 is no easy task.
My configuration is here -> https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...s-ordered.html, and came in at $81,800. I consider it pretty well loaded (air suspension, etc.), though no performance upgrades (PDCC, PVT). Good luck; the Cayenne is awesome.

We are very happy with our V-6. Tried the V8, but don't need the extra power or acceleration in any of the driving we do (the exception was on the Autobahn when we took delivery).
Have had our V-6 with some nice options - I am sure many would say we went a bit too much - but we spend a lot of time in the vehicle on the highway mostly.
Since taking (second) delivery at the end of August in Canada have put on over 10,000 km without any regrets. Okay, it would have been nice to be able to blow away the Audi that wanted to race me from that stoplight on Saturday night, but funnily enough, he looked quite funny pulled over 2 blocks later by the cops.
Maybe if you are driving in the mountains in the twisty roads a lot and really want the power to pull around many cars quickly... I haven't experienced any desire to spend a lot more to get a bit more power. The money we spend on the options was a better investment.
Your experience, of course, may differ from mine.

6 and 8 are much closer to eachother in performance than ever before... you have to erase everything you previously knew/thought and try them out for yourself..
to me the 6 is very quick for it's size and the gas mileage is great, the 8 only really showed its power to me passing on highway and such... I am a fast driver but did not feel the 8 was a big enough jump in power to justify the difference in cost... the turbo is a beast but then again much more money.
people that prefer the 8, have the 8. people that prefer the 6, have the 6... so it's hard to get an unbiased decision... if the price was about 6-8k difference then i feel it would be worth it, but 15k is a little extreme... (11,5 difference if u consider all the standard options but even some wont require those... so 11,5 is JUST the 2 cylinders)
if you dont keep cars very long, your wallet will be much happier buying the V6 as well, especially if you can live without superfluous options that others will never pay for.

Our V-6 (dealer spec) was pretty loaded for a little over 70K (standard suspension though). I test drove the 2011 CS also, and it did have a little more punch, but I don't have any complaints with our V-6's performance, towing ability, or gas mileage. I think it also sounds great at WOT.
Note: be sure and push the Sport Mode button and you will be more impressed with its performance.

I tried both and did not find the V6 to be lacking in any way. I went for the V8. I just gave up my sports car and this is my only vehicle for now. I guess I just wanted a little more get up and go (I doubt I will use it much however). If you do not like the price tag of the V8 with the options you must have, then get the V6.

I got a V6 with mostly non-performance options (a little over $70k msrp like KS-CS)... I had planned on getting a V8 but after a test drive, I was not impressed and did not want to spend extra $14k...
But this V6 engine I got has some vibration issue... engine vibration was noted in a Motor Trend review below. When I read it before, I thought the vibration was limited to performance driving....
"Idle isn't as smooth as it should be. Then, around 3000 rpm, there's a period of tingling vibration. And the last 1000 rpm before redline isn't a pleasant thing to hear. To be blunt, the engine falls short of Porsche's elevated standards."

My vibration is there about 70% of the time.... sometimes all is good, but sometimes, vibration comes even at 1000 rpm range... Idling is very rough from time to time too... My truck has about 600 miles so far... (delivered a month ago)
Does any other V6 owners have a similar issue? This is now getting very annoying to me.... I came from a 2008 X5 3.0si, and I really miss that smooth inline 6...
(The power is much better than expected though... no complaint there...)
