Unless you're in Dubai, I would find another shop. $2K for parts and labor, max. 150% of that if you call the dealer. But Kalyan is right - do it yourself. Great sense of accomplishment, and you build an almost maternal bond with your Cayenne.

And yes, when doing the pipes, you literally open up everything down to the starter. It's just sitting there begging for someone to replace it. But your dual problem doesn't require two separate labor costs. Ask for a quote for just the pipes, and when that gets under $2K, tell them you'd like the starter done while they're in there for just the retail price of the part.

FYI, the DIY is stickied at the very top ("A - Z"), and it's not bad (unless you have a Turbo, with extra work). You earn a merit badge if you've done it yourself.

cost me a grand in parts alone and that with my shop discount from Porsche. Figure 5-6 hrs labor for an experienced shop, 8-10 hrs for lesser shops. Id say $2-2500 is a fair estimate. My bill to myself ended up just under $2500 and I didnt rip myself off.

I'm in the middle of this right now. I'm doing it myself, bought the parts kit from Suncoast for about $540, a couple other parts (T fitting and new PCV breather) and am at about $700 total in parts.

Had starter checked out by a starter/alternator repair shop because there was no way I was putting it back in not knowing if it was okay or not.

Local dealership (Champion Porsche in Pompano, FL) said parts are about $1000 and labor is 7 hours at $135/hr..so right about $2000. This is a little high compared to some Indy shops, but will validate what's already been said about price...

Where are you located? Saw an ad on 6speed for a shop in NY that was doing this repair for under $1400 and there was good feedback from a few people that had already had them done there.

BTW, if you DIY it have fun what a biiatch this job is!!!

Scotitude - what's your labor rate?? Sounds like you billed for 10 hours...

I do like that you are the only one I know of who DIY'd it and took it to an Indy... I wish I had gotten paid to do mine!

A respected local indy shop uses ALL DATA which lists coolant pipe labor at 14 hours. His rate is $100/hr so $1400 plus parts. The local P dealer quoted the same 14hrs...$3000 with parts.

Found a indy shop who billed for the actual time to complete the work. $1200 for the pipes, water pump and 60K service. I supplied the OEM coolant pipe kit.

pulled out my indy "bill". $1400 for parts, $900 for labor plus tax. $2400 and change. took 8-9 hrs but i also added the water pump, new pulley and starter. I took it slow as i have a terrible habit of hackin when i rush. Im gonna check alldata tomorrow but i think 14 hrs is a stretch for just the tubes. this can be done in 5-6 hrs when you know what to do and have tools and parts at hand. Was advised by a higher up P rep to provide a bill as there might be some "goodwill" with the dealer. And the check is in the mail and i wont c**e in your mouth, yadda yadda yadda. Right. NADA.
