New and trying to decide '04 ctt or '08 S
Hi all,
I am suddenly crazy about the Cayenne (which makes me crazy). I am now in a position to afford a used one and have been looking at a few. There is a small dealer here that has a beautiful '04 Turbo with 72K on it for $27k and an '08 S with 37k for $39. I drove them and they both feel mechanically sound. They are cool with me getting a PPI, which I will do.
I would just like to hear some opinions about my selection. I am aware of the issues with the '04's and not sure if any have been resolved, such as coolant pipes.
I actually liked the drive and sound of the S better, but I need to drive both again tomorrow.
There aren't many here in Portland and it's rare to find one sold from a private party. Sunset does not have any used.
Comments anyone?

I went through the same choice back in August, 04 CTT with 50K miles vs. 08 C-S with 35K miles. Both were CPO'd and the S was about $11K more. The TT just had a more visceral feel, plus I really liked the color combo more, so it was a pretty easy decision to go with the TT considering the lower price.
In your case, there is a much bigger difference in the mileage on the vehicles so you need to factor that in. But with a $12K price difference you could pay a dealer to replace the coolant pipes and still come out ahead.
When I asked the same question on this forum in August, one piece of advice I received was "no one has ever regretted getting the Turbo over the S, but many have regretted getting an S rather than a Turbo." I think I made the right choice for me, but in your case the mileage, price, and lack of warranty on either vehicle could shift the equation for you. Give them both another spirited test drive and then go with the one that makes your heart beat faster!

I'm a broken record on this topic. I wanted a Cayenne, so I went looking to buy an S. A turbo seemed, well, so ridiculous for an SUV. What kind of lame pimpster needs 450HP on a 6,000lb GVWR monster? It's not like we buy Porsches to drive like SPORTS utilities, right?
The deal was just about inked... until the jerk dealer said, "Why don't you take this Turbo out for a spin real quick...?" And that was it. I could not believe what was happening when I pushed that little lever with my right foot... why was the seat wrapping around my back so tightly? Why was the world blurring outside all the windows? Why were my (3) backseat kids' jaws dropped wide open? Why was my S.O. laughing out loud in the passenger's seat? Why did everyone just start cheering? (and, why were my shorts wet??)... etc. Oh, and this was compared to the Boxster I was replacing...
SUCH a great decision. Get the Porsche of the Cayennes.

Thanks everyone. I am easily swayed, so a Turbo it is! I happened to find another CTT that is sold from a private seller, but in Seattle (a 3 hr drive for me). It is close to the Porsche dealer up there so I plan to check it out tomorrow and if I like it, get the PPI, which he's cool with. He has no maintenence records, which bothers me. It has the color combo I want and a pano roof, which I would love to have. Black w/saddle/suede.
I'll keep you posted on what transpires.
I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better. I think .
I have normally been on the 993 forum but I sold her today to make the Cayenne happen. Can't afford both, or the issue$ my 993 was about to give me.

Am I too late to post for the CTT? I was on a long fwy onramp yesterday and with no cars in sight, I let the turbos breathe. By the end of the onramp, I hit at least 90 and it was still pulling.
Good luck with finding the right one!

CTT all the way, it definitely will put a smile on your face!!!
...and if you ever need more hp, a turbo has waaay better potential than an S.
(this coming from a CT-S owner wanting to hit ±650hp by the end of the year )
