Default Bose vs. standard sound system

I found a 2009 GTS that looks like a good deal and has all of the right options except it does not have Bose. What exactly does the Bose option include besides the upgraded speakers and can anyone comment on the difference in the sound quality between a Bose and non-Bose equipped Cayenne?

Thanks.

The Bose option consists of a Bose design amplifier on the MOST (plastic optical fiber connection) sitting in the rear cargo compartment, passenger side, on top of the CDC Changer, along with a 100W self powered ported bass driver (not a subwoofer) in the spare tire compartment, along with the speakers you mentioned.

Sound quality is highly subjective, but I would not allow the Bose option to decide whether or not I purchase the vehicle.

IMHO, it is an overpriced option that brings little value to a vehicle...and I think Larry (R.I.P. )would have agreed.

On my 2009 GTS, 6 Disc changer is in the dash, but never heard one without at least Bose so can't comment on the standard system.

I have the Bose Surround and I'm quite impressed....but I agree it's not worth passing on a great deal for the perfect vehicle for you. Can't compare to non Bose in a Cayenne, but compared to my 2000 S4 it's a big improvement.

Premium stock cars have premium standard sound regardless.

As in: Standard sound: Good.

BOSE: Great.

And Good on the Porsche is better than some Greats on other car companies.

What is the difference between a ported bass driver and a subwoofer?

I suspect it is a very overpriced option (as many of them are) but on resale the option has a much more realistic value. But I agree, this is not an option I would bypass the car over.

A subwoofer is usually a transducer that it capable of producing significant sound pressure levels for low frequency (bass) signals.

The Bose box is just a couple of 5 1/4" transducers, which don't really produce much bass, installed with a port to help increase the low frequency sound pressure performance.

yes, the Bose option is over priced. OEM's like it that way, infotainment options were the 2nd highest profit option after powertrain upgrades....

The stereo in my Cayman was much worse than the OE stereos in my '95 Miata and every Subaru I owned (6).

To my untrained ear, the Bose in my '09 GTS was inferior to the ML system in my Lexus Gx470 and the Harmon Kardon systems in my LR3, RRS S/C, and FFRR. The HK system in the FFRR is very nice.

Bose is crap.

B&W with the new Jaguars are exciting.

I was in a test drive with a RRS and the Harmon Kardon sound is great.

buying a GTS known for its gorgeous sound and worrying about stereo...

it's a car with all sorts of engine-, wind- and tire noise coming in, not a living room where you really want your stereo to perform.
