03-05 Cayenne S vibration humming sound?
Do all the cayennes sound kinda loud when driving on the highway. When i am coasting about 65 - 70 I can hear this slight humming sound and the sound changes pitch when i accelerate or decelerate, mind you this sound is very bleak. Also when I let go of the gas going 65ish the car doesnt just coast as if i were in neutral, I can feel the slight vibration in the steering wheel. I had the dealership drive it and they said its just because its an AWD with two drive shafts. Any input would be nice thanks

I have no idea what a "bleak" sound is (dark and gloomy, without redeaming features?).. but it sounds as if you're hearing some tire noise. There are always some mechanical sounds with any vehicle - the Cayenne has done a good job on soundproofing - but some noise is going to be heard no matter what. It could be a bit of noise from one of the differentials, or the low-speed transfer box.. The vibration is likely not absolutely normal, but without feeling it - hard to say. Might just be a slight imbalance on a tire, or a bit of looseness in the driveline.
Suggestion - turn the radio up..

You may have something related to the servo in the steering column...
Is it loudest/most noticeable when first driving off from standstill? Road noise can drown these things out at highway speeds.

And probably a superseded alignment spec for extra credit.
Double points for road force balancing as well.
The vibration will lead to premature failure of the rear window microswitch, rusting stainless steel trim ejecting and the headlight connectors becoming loose.
Nothing out of the ordinary really....

man owning this cayenne is really turning out to be a chore rather then enjoyment already spent close to 3k on coolant pipes and transmission seals. The vibration and sound continues even if i put it neutral so my guess is, its not my front diff or tranny, the balancing and alignment is off so im gonna get that done and see if that takes care of it if not its most likely the drive shaft ... there goes another grand lame!!!!.. sorry for the longest runons ever

As mentioned above, check the alignment and do a google search on feathered tires. The insides or outsides of the tires seem to wear funny on these cars.
Our has this terrible sound from about 15mph to 35mph then goes away with speed. the tires look like a checkerboard with uneven surfaces.
You may also need a new shaft as others have mentioned.
