This is worrying me......

After the anecdotal reports here of massive Porsche V8 oil consuption I was expecting the worst. Even my salesman, who I ran into while my P!G was in for it's sport exhaust transplant, asked me if my car was using oil. Which got me concerned because at 1200 miles (I know, I should drive it more, but there are reasons and I do have a 2000 mile road trip coming up....) I have yet to add any oil and the level still shows max. I took a 400 mile freeway trip recently which should have taken care of any moisture accumulation.
So I'm wondering if my gauge is accurate. Any thoughts on whether there's another way to verify oil level other than draining the sump, which hardly seems reasonable? (damn you, no dipstick for backup) Anyone else experiencing minimal oil useage? Am I inventing something to worry about?

Yes. Just drive it. I think a 2k+ road trip should be required w/in the first 3 mos. of ownership, might help w/ oil consumption issues.
And just to give you more reason to worry, I had assumed most of the oil issues were with the Turbo vehicles but talked to a gentleman today at our Cars-n-Coffee with a Panamera S who says he's using about 1 qt. every 1k mi. although he only has about 4k on the clock and hasn't taken any extended drives with it yet.
He also has a few other Porsches, not just the Pana.

I'm about 5,500 miles into an 8,000 mile trip - and started with about 3,000 miles on the oil.. my '06 remains at the max-fill line (one of the antiques with a dip-stick..) It hasn't gone down a bit. Not using oil is generally considered a GOOD THING.

Well my issue, of course, is that I'm not using oil when it seems most everyone else is making me wonder if my gauge is correct. Negative thinking, I suppose.

Mike, your gauge is fine. I topped off the oil for the first time in ours at 4585 miles on it after the oil bar went to the lowest level within the normal range. I too was paranoid just like you my friend.

Hi Mike,
I felt the same way for the same reason. Mind has used one qt in 9200 miles and I drive it pretty hard. I got so used to not seeing any movement in the electric oil gauge that I don't look at it too much any more. Then, on a recent 1800 mile road trip to Oregon the low oil warning light came on—it really startled me. But I guess it's not a big deal as I added what I had left from topping off last time (a little less that a quart) and it now shows one square below the center, so I'm fine again until my 10k service.
No worries, Mr. Mike.

What are the oil change intervals these days ? I know when the cayenne first came out it was like 20k. Then i realized that i didnt start "using" oil till like 7k so i just change my oil every 4500 miles and I never use oil and I got 90k on the clock on a 2006 ctts. Think about it why put a quart of new oil in with about 8 quarts of old oil just change it at 4.5-5k and there will be no oil compsumtion issues.

What do you suggest for those using a quart every 1000 miles; an oil change every 500?
I change mine at manufacturers recommended intervals which is also the advice given by Mobil for the use of Mobil 1. GTS 15,000km (9,375 m.) no top ups between services and CTT 20,000 km. (12,500 m.) 3 ltr between services. In both cases the oil is still clean when changed.

I don't see an a major oil manufacturer risking reputation or limiting potential sales by overstating performance claims. However being the recommended oil supplier for Porsche kinda guarantees healthy sales.
