Not sure what keywords I need to enter but it is the small little red light when you lift the tailgate all the way up on the bottom end of the tailgate. Do I need to pull the liner out first or can I just pop off the plastic cover? Thanks.

I recently replaced this bulb as well. The box shaped light assembly comes out with light "prying" for removal (I used a nylon tool used for changing bicycle tires.....not a screwdriver). Once the assembly is removed, unplug the wiring harness, then there are metal tabs around the perimeter that will allow the red cover to slide off and expose the bulb inside. A local auto parts store carried the replacement bulb.

Now if I knew how to tun off the white lights on the inner side of the tailgate, that would be good information. At night they are always on and I have not found the magic on/off switch. ('06 CT)
