Ask him to define the 'shear factor.' silly....

I am going to wally world for some synthetic 75W90 for both axles in 04 cayenne s (I think Mobil 1 has this...the valvoline is semi-synth). i will grab a synthetic atf meeting mercon V (esso lt 71141 equivalent, but will try to get synthetic) for the transfer case (probably a mobil 1 product again, but I also like the wal-mart brand). I'll get some valvoline 75w-90 for my pickup truck (semi synthetic) and some valvoline 75W-140 full synthetic for the pickup truck rear. darn truck want axle oil every 15K (probably due to 350 HP combined with a trash-lok). Cayenne just got 10 or 11 qts of Mobil 3309 in the tranny and new rotella T6 in the engine. want to do the axles and transfer case before replacing the plastic.

I changed mine with mobil1 LS 75w90 you can see this in my gallery. I also changed the transfer case. My front diff was horirible looking solid brown. The new is a clear golden color.

I changed my front & rear & transfer case last year @ 53K and they all showed worn fluid but nothing I would call foul or real bad. I used Redline 75w-90 gear oil front & rear and Redline D4 ATF in the transfer case. I have a Porsche ATF filter & gasket and plan to change the tranny fluid with Redline D4 ATF in the next few months, Porsche say's 160K for a tranny fluid change but I found some Aisin literature that said 90K so at 60K should be fine for a Turbo S.

Changed mine at 90k+ and the front was dark brown. Definitely some serious wear.

Make sure the garage door is open because this stuff smells. My wife could smell it in the house

Is there a good DIY for all of this, I would like to do it in the near future. Do you have to have a durametric tool??

No Durametric needed. It's fairly easy. The only tricky part is the front fill plug. I used an Allen wrench and cut 1/4 inch off to fit it between the frame.

You may be thinking of the transmission fluid temp which you will need Durametric for. Some have used an infrared temp reader on the pad but I'm not sure how accurate that is compared to the ECU trans temp.

It is my understanding that the newer 2011+ Cayennes do not have a transfer case. Do the front and rear diffs in the newer models take the same gear oil? If so is it consistent with the specs for the pre-2011 cars? I am a new member of the group and, like many I have read about, getting prepped for a 2013 build! My first Porsche. I have enjoyed reading the posts and see there are ups and downs to Porsche ownership! Still looking forward to my venture! Thanks for your replies.
