Growing up in Idaho, it was common practice to give a little wave to the oncoming vehicle if it was the same make/model. If you happened to pass the same vehicle in the same color - then that made you instant BFFs.
Here it is 20 years later, and I'm now living in Scottsdale, Arizona. Apparently, same-car-waves are beneath the houghty residents of Snottsdale, as I've passed several Cayenne owners (some the same year/color) with nary a nod. I have to say... part of me misses that subtle show of camaraderie, as stupid as it may seem.
Just curious if the same-car-wave has died out in other parts of the country/world - or do you still get that friendly gesture?

It's difficult to make a gesture while checking your make up in the mirror and texting with your phone..
I mean you need a free hand to grab that coffee.

People still respond to a wave here in California but it's not the same as it was in the past. When I bought my first 911 almost 30 years ago people who owned Porsches tended to be enthusiasts who were keenly aware of other sports cars, especially Porsches, on the road. They paid attention when they saw another one and would respond to a flash of the headlights or a wave. Now many people who buy a Porsche of any kind, but especially a Cayenne, seem to feel they're just driving another high end car. I don't think it's so much that they're unfriendly, it's that they aren't paying attention and don't realize some other person driving a Porsche feels something in common with them.

I do the P-Car wave. I get more responses in my 944 than my Cayenne, but I think that's because the Cayenne doesn't stand out as much in traffic.

I'd like to give the bird to 80% of the road users here, but do it to the wrong person and your in jail with your passport confiscated. Friendly waves rarely happen!

And besides, Cayenne owners should be driving with a brown paperbag over their heads, so they really shouldn't be able to see much....

I especially want to point out: "Alte Sau" ("Old Pig") for 2500 EUR (± $3500) and flipping a bird to a policeman for 4000 EUR (± $5700).

I guy a wave from a Hyudai Santa Fe owner who must have thoughI was driving the same car. Does that count?
On the other hand, 911 owners always seem to pay their respects to the 993.
