The "No Warning Sounds From Dash" Mystery

The "No Warning Sounds From Dash" Mystery
Last fall the dealer replaced the battery in my 04 CS (original owner, good dealer service dept). Sometime thereafter I noticed the usual warning sounds (seat belt, lights left on, etc) were sounding weaker.....almost a weak bleat rather than a beep or a bell. Then about 6 weeks ago there were no sounds at all...not even turn signal indicator audible clicking.
Then one day the turn signal indicator lights on the dash stopped lighting up and the voltage meter in the instrument cluster went to zero. I took it straight in to the dealer; they kept it for several days and could not find a fault. The battery tested good and the voltage meter functioned normally thereafter but still no sounds.
Then - and I am not making this up - the Monday morning after Obama announced that bin Laden had been killed, I got sounds again. Still weak, but audible. But only for 3 days. And only on the first drive of the morning. Since then, back to complete silence.
Any helpful ideas?

Same thing happened to me, warning chime for the belts started sounding
"sick" followed by other things failing in the cluster. Dealer replaced the instrument cluster and now everything is perfect. Said it was a known issue on mine.
I guess lucky for you maybe is that you don't have a turbo. They told me that since I had a turbo the cluster had to come from Germany. It took about four days in the shop for this, mostly for shipping.

What model year is/was your turbo?

2004' I just had this part replaced about two weeks ago. The dealer damaged the leather near the cluster and that added a day to the repair. But otherwise it was no big deal. Mine will be under warrant for quite some time so I can't tell you what it cost to replace. Only that once it was replaced everything started working again.

Ouch.
Can you tell me where you are / the name of the dealer? (PM would be ok if you wish.) I think I'd like to pursue the 'known issue' aspect. If that doesn't pan out I suspect I'll be going to the good local independent Porsche shop and seeing if we can find a 'recycled' unit.
