New Cayenne here at long last

Nice!
Very nice!
I noted the comment about the V1 and the follow-up about the Escort Redline. I've had a V1, I miss the directional arrows, but the range on the Redline is the difference maker for me. I never leave home without it.
Enjoy the vehicle, I just hit 10k miles in mine, it's a blast.

FYI, I accessed the fuse panel in the end of the dash on the passenger side. There was an unused switched circuit in the second row, what would be position 18 if you look at the chart in the manual. I used the spare 10 amp fuse with my fuse tap. My connection cord is flat, not round, so even though the gaps are small it wasn't too difficult to tuck it under the headliner and between the windshield and the A-pillar. The only place it's partially visible at all is between the speaker grill and the pillar and even there it's hardly noticeable. I bundled the connector jack, fuse, extra wire, etc, in foam wrap so there'd be no rattles and stuffed it in a little cubby above the fuse panel. The V1 works great!

Hi Mike,
That's a nice clean job. Thanks much for the detailed installation idea and great pix too!! I take it that you used the suction cups as opposed to the visor clip (which I have used in the past). Also, did the unit come with the flat cord and fuse thingie? Does the V1 turn on and off with the ignition? 20 questions....

What's the advantage to disabling POP mode? Is it just the reaction to LCA or more? Mine is set off by everything these days...if it will alleviate some of that, i will disable for sure!!

I bought this V1 to use with my departed S4. The unit came with the fused connector and I think the flattened cord (it's not totally flat) too but can't remember for sure about the cord. It's been a while. I may have gotten that elsewhere.
Finally, yes it's a switched circuit, comes on and goes off with the ignition. It's a pain to remember to turn the detector on and off otherwise.
Let me know if you have other questions.

The unit I just put in the Cayenne doesn't have POP but the one in my Carrera does. Or so I found out when I went to the V1 web site. Apparently there's a radar gun manufacturer whose units use a super quick radar burst called POP that is designed to foil radar detectors. According to Valentine's site it is highly inaccurate and actually not admissable in court as the sole evidence for conviction, but police agencies use it anyway. The later V1's have a special circuit to detect the POP burst, but it's this circuit that also picks up the LCA signal. There is info on the Valentine site on how to determine whether your unit has POP mode and how to disable it if it does.

Nice clean job on the V1 Mike! How did you hide it so well by the A pillar and visor? This would be a great tutorial on a another thread.

Thanks, Aperture! I've wired radar detectors into about a dozen cars now, including 4 Porsches, so I've learned from my mistakes. The Cayenne trim fits pretty tight, but with a flat profile cord, a set of non-marring plastic pry tools, and a little patience it isn't too difficult. It helps that Porsches (and Audis too) have very accessible fuse/power tap panels so you have short cable runs and a place to hide the excess cord and connectors.
