Leipzig Production
Do any of you guys know how the factory works at Leipzig? Just curious as to how many shifts, hours of production, and if they are 5 or 6 days a week. I've been watching ultimate factories on NatGeo lately and am very interested in comparing. I've searched here and the web. I thought I read something about it in a post, but can't find it anymore.

An interesting read which also allows you to visit the factory "on-line".

It is two shifts per day, 5 days a week. Non Porsche logistics workers go to a parts warehouse and load a cart with parts for each car. Every car is a custom build. There are 8 member teams that assemble one car completely (chassis and dash arrive from Bratislava VW plant painted and assembled). Each member changes what job they do so they don't get bored with repetitive tasks. It is a pretty cool working environment where it is clear that Porsche cares about their employees.

Once a body enters Leipzig, how long is it there before it leaves as a completed vehicle?

They have a 3 step process. The first step is called the "engagement" - that is where the engine meets the drivetrain. The next step is called the "marriage" - that is where the drivetrain joins the body. The final step involves fitting the options to the car, it takes +/- 8 hours.

I HAVE to visit the factory at some point. It would be torte for me to drive my car there and then have to wait for it to be delivered, but I'd love to see them at work putting "someone's" car together.

Here's a video of the experience. Not the most informative but entertaining none-the-less.
