Default Ordering '11 Cayenne This Week I Have A Couple Questions

I placed a tenative order yesterday that I have to complete in the next couple of days. Jet Black Metalic/Black interior. The questions I have are: 1. Are there any options other than the standard ones that are "must haves". 2. I am debating between the Cayenne Sport Edition wheel and the 911 Turbo II wheel. Has anyone seen either or both of these on a black vehicle? The pictures on the configuration tool are really not that great, and since there are basically no vehicles at the dealers to look at, the web is about all I got.

Any advice or feedback would be appriciated.

Thanks,

George

Do a search, you will find lots of information regarding options on the car and the various opinions. I believe the consensus is that you should at least get PASM. Upgrading to the 14-way seats is nice too.

Lots of opinions on sound, so ideally you should try and listen to the different systems, but from what I have read, people that have ordered the burmester have really liked it (I just have the Bose and am satisfied with it).

I think that the painted sport editions would look sharp - see a recent post for a grey car with modded dark wheels - they are sweet.

FWIW, I don't care for PASM, although it comes standard in my '11. I've driven without it for 5+ years on a previous Cayenne and would have preferred to NOT have it currently. It depends on what kind of a feel you like on the road, but just wanted you to know that not everyone thinks PASM is a must, though I'm probably in the minority.

Very good point...after all,a feel for the road is what separates the real drivers from the tourists

My Carrera S with the Sport version of PASM is the first car I've ever owned with a remotely adjustable or adaptive suspension, so I've had many standard suspensions to compare it with. Not to be contrary, but I don't get how PASM supposedly interferes with road feel. It simply gives the option to have a car that's more firmly or softly sprung for a given situation, including the ability to override the adaptive feature in sport mode, without having to replace parts or manually change suspension settings. It's possible that the firmest or softest setting might not be as firm or soft as you'd like, but that could also be said of a standard suspension. In any event, it doesn't mean that road feel is being masked.

A car with PASM will not have an option to go as firm as a car without it. At least that's what my DCS (derriere calibration system) tells me. And I think I've mentioned here before that I drive on the lowest setting, in sport and there is a major difference with my previous Cayenne. This major, to me (actually, to us both), difference has been evident when we did our initial Cayenne shopping back in 2005, hence not going for a PASM equipped P!G then.

I don't have the numbers (yet) to challenge your DCS for the new Cayenne, but I know that for the '09 Carrera for example, spring rates are actually higher front and rear for the PASM chassis cars than the standard ones (I have the actual numbers if you're interested). With most adaptive suspensions this is acceptable because the adjustable damping can still be tuned to allow for a comfortable ride in the softer settings while allowing for a firmer ride in sport mode than is normally available on a car without the adjustment feature. In other words, adjustable suspensions can be less of a compromise. I'd be surprised if the Cayenne were different, but I've been surprised before.

The other factor in comparing the old Cayenne to the new one is weight. Not having to deal with that 400 extra pounds in the old car might have allowed Porsche to go with slightly softer springs than before while still improving overall chassis performance and handling. Your new P!G might feel softer to your DCS, but it will ultimately go around corners faster.

Plenty of threads in the last few months reviewing several must haves. Just do a quick search, including a thread that I started that says prepare to be wow'd, the w00tMOBILE has arrived.
In my opinion PASM and air suspension are a must have. Although I love the turbo II wheels, my only issue is that Porsche has these on several of their cars (911, panamera). Is you want exclusivity, then go for the sport edition wheels (offered only on the Cayenne). Beware the ride would be a little harsh on the 21s compared to the 20s and also factor in the higher cost of tire replacement.

The ride issue did cross my mind, but both 21" options are much more estheticly pleasing to me. I love the picture above with the turbo wheel, I wish I could find one with the Sport edition on a black car.

Here are Design II wheels on my black CS.

Also, the options I'm really enjoing are:

1. Full leather (everyone knows I think this is a must)
2. Panoroof
3. Voice control/command

Sweet looking car!! Two questions: How much heat do you experience from the pano roof, and are those the roof rails, or the roof transport system? Obviously you have ski racks up there, is that part of the transport system or is that something you can add to the rails?

While we are at it, any feedback on the 8 way vs. 14 way seats. Are any more comfortable? I'm 6'4" and my legs are so damn long that the thigh support fully extended is still way short of my knee area, and I don't know if it really matters.

Did you check out my thread on several options on the w00tMOBILE .. I have bumped it up for you. I love the thigh support on the 18-ways but it will still fall short for someone who is 6'4".

I have the 14 way seats and am very glad I ordered them. I also have the entry/drive and wouldn't want to be without it.
