We recently purchased a used 2006 Porsche Cayenne S and have found the milege on the hwy to be averaging 17km/100L where it should be close to 12. I keep it under 70mph. Does anyone have any thoughts why would this be or anything I can do to improve it or will it get better as it adjusts to my driving? Thanks

If my math is correct, then 17 L of fuel for 100 km is about 13.8 mpg. Did I figure that correctly? This is what I would expect in city driving, not highway driving. 12 L of fuel for 100 km is about 19.6 mpg, which is about what I'd expect. Are you using the trip computer, or are you actually figuring it based on km driven and fuel consumed? It sounds really low... have you had the engine tuned recently? Any CEL or other problems with the engine running smoothly?

Your math is correct:
13.8 MPG = 17 l/100km
19.6 MPG = 12l/100km
On average, I cannot get my GTS beyond 19.6 MPG, even driving mostly highway without traffic with cruise control. 14 MPG sounds about right for city driving.

The engine was just tuned, and had my 6 mo checkup and all is well. I drive 90% hwy and cannot get better than 12 to 13mpg on the tank and that is based on my computer. Would the cold weather make a difference? Any way to make this better when I drive? Thanks

I have also a 2006 CS, (with 275/40 in the front, and 315/35 in rear) and the board computer allways says around 14.8 to 15.2 l/100km.
If I measure for good, on mix city-freeway, (using the odometer and the pump reading) I think it is about 16 to 17 l. to 100km. (I think Porsche got an Italian computer in this car, ..to be more pleasant with the driver !)![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
On freeway only, easy to say : one tank (25 gal. or about 97 l.) goes for 410 miles. This is 16.4 MPG ..or about 15.2 l./100km
(I drive often between two points distant of this.)
But, I remember that when I had some coils that become defective, the mileage went down, i.e.: it jumped to 20 l. /100km ! (To know about the status of your coil, this is a 3 minutes PIWI connection, looking for misfires.)
I would be interested to know what "real" readings a Cayenne S with DFI would do.

I can report exactly 18MPG according to the computer for a 150 mile trip on the highway. Much of the time I had the cruise control locked at an indicated 74MPH (just below ticket range in NJ..) The friend who was with me claimed I wasn't babying it.. (first day with the new toy.)
