Default Panoramic roof option on new Cayenne S

I just ordered my first Cayenne S for May 2011 delivery. After leaving the showroom, I am concerned about the panoramic roof I have ordered. Main worry is the additional heat from the summer sun. Does anyone have any first hand experience with excessive heat and pano roofs?

On a hot day I don't like the sun beating down even through a regular glass sunroof and summers here in Northern California are nothing compared to the heat where you live. The flimsy shade on the pano roof didn't seem like it would provide very much insulation and the heat issue was one reason I didn't order it.

Of course this is very subjective and others who have the pano roof love it and probably think my concerns are silly. Maybe they are. Still, in a place like Dubai I'd think twice about driving around in an open convertible or a vehicle with a glass roof. Just my $.02.

Although I love the pana roof ... I think it may not be a good idea to have them in the middle east/ gulf region.

The shade that comes with the pano roof should do a fairly good job keeping the sun out and the glas seems quite thick - but I've no experience with warm weather. One interesting thing is that the pano roof doesn't seem to transmit much outside wind and road noise. In my parrents BMW 3 series wagon it is quite the opposite and they usually keep the pano roof shade closed to cut down on the noise.

It gets pretty hot here in summer, not like Dubai but hot nonetheless. Weve never really had a problem with excess heat from our pano roof.

Took a Cayenne for a test drive the other day that had the pano roof. Was not a hot day by Melbourne standards, about 32c, blue ski, but sun here really has a bite to it. Even with the sun shade in place it was like sitting in a Green House, Air co was running on high most of the time. They look good and may be great in climates that think 30c is very hot, but I would hate to be in one when we hit 40-45c. I also look at what will happen to the interior when constantly exposed to the sun.

I am not even optioning in a sunroof.

Cheers

Why not just add a 30% film tint to defuse the direct sun?

Timely thread. Also considering it here in the UK, obviously heat will never be an issue
However, I was concerned about the fabric shade that comes with it, dealer was insisting it came only in black...But he confirmed today that it is color matched to the interior.
To be honest, I was planning to go with Alcantara headliner instead, it looks awesome and not sure how much use I will get from the pano roof. had it on a X5 before and didn't use it much. Very popular here in the UK, so might get it for resale value.
In very hot climate it might indeed generate a fair bit of heat, even with the bleak January sun when I test drove, you could feel the glass house effect and the blind is very thin. BMW's is a lot thicker and completely blacked out for instance.
Don't want the sunroof/moonrof as it eats up too much headroom, which pano roof doesn't, Have plenty of time to decide tho...

I'm next door in Oman, had the CS with the pano' roof for 3 years no problems with heat but we do have the factory 'double glazing' on the side glass. Not sure if that helps to cut the heat generally but it does get hot here ~ 50degrees C in the shade

Interesting point. Besides the heat would you say that with the double glazing the wind noise from roof is more noticeable? I am concerned that speccing the double glazing for reduced noise in the cabin might be defeated with the pano roof...
Thx

I have a 06 Cayenne S with the pano roof, and live in Florida. Put limo tint on it and have no issues with heat especially with the shade in place. To me it feels like the same heat from what a solid roof would be. I absolutely love it. But to gage this, I also have a black on black Boxster S(with headliner), and a 911 Targa(older one with headliner) which I don't feel heat is a problem either.
