Default New Owner - 06 CS Titanium Edition

Howdy...

Long time boarder, first time Rennlist user.

Just replaced my wife's aging 2001 Range Rover with a 2006 CS Titanium Edition in Iceland Silver. Compared a 2007 Range Rover, 2008 RR Sport, 2010 Cayenne, and Volvo XC60. The 06 Titanium won.

I was a long time 2003 Boxster S owner, sold it this past August after I drove (and bought) a 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series. I guess an SUV is a way for me to get back to Porsche.

The Titanium has only 26K miles. I am hoping the coolant pipes and other common issues are more mileage-sensitive than time-sensitive. Is that a bad assumption?

Couple of other Cayenne newbie questions:
  • On cold start, are these always noisy? The first time I drove it cold there was an annoying reverberation effect on the driver's side. My 2 other passengers could not hear it, but me being a car freak I notice stuff like this immediately. It had me worried to the point I almost did not buy it.
  • Is the power steering always noisy even after warmup?
First mods coming:
  • Hitch receiver installation
  • Denison + BTA install (or mObridge install) to add iPod + Bluetooth

Congrats! I also have 06 Cayenne Titanium Edition, what a great SUV!

There is a page to check whether you still have plastic pipes or aluminum. I've seen these go out anywhere between 30k-50k miles, but don't count on my words though.

I would personally replace them before they go out as other components will also go down due to coolant.

Have fun and enjoy the ride!

On cold start the car starts off in 1st gear to warm up the Cats
Squeaky steering could mean column replacement, heard of a few that were done under warranty early on

That's good to know about the 1st gear start when cold. However, the reverberation I felt was as I was cruising at 40+mph.

The previous owner shows a Porsche service record of "customer states they vehicle makes a whining noise at start up when cold. RPM related. sounds like air in a power steering pump" - service advisor says "vehicle is operating as designed - no faults noted at this time'.

I will drive it cold this morning and see what happens again.

Regarding the steering at low speed, it's not just squeaky, it's noisy. Like the PS fluid is low. Something I did not personally check yet. If is indeed low, there's probably a leak somewhere.

Lot's of info on this subject. You have two options:

- Porsche OEM install (expensive!)
- Aftermarket Curt Hitch (a PITA to get the wiring right - IMHO)

For towing trailers with LED lights, you'll need a special adapter for the brake lights to work:

It you're just looking to mount a bike rack on the hitch, forget everything I mentioned above and just go with the Curt hitch which is about $170.

I thought all the cardan shaft issues were fixed by mid model year 2004 / early model year 2005?

I hope for him it's not a cardan shaft - if so then I hope he's not naked as I would imagine that's an expensive fix...

About $1,000 at any dealer if naked. Had mine replaced on 06 S with 40k.

Air pumps make a good bit of noise on startup, not an issue.
Vortex online has C.shafts w/ 1 yr. warranty for ~390.

I've had neither the C.shaft or the coolant pipes go out yet, (53k mi.) but I'm still under CPO for another 9 mos. Trying to decide now whether I want to keep this thing, I've had enough transmission issues I don't want to be stuck buying a new tranny after CPO is up.

I have 13 mos CPO left and exploring the same thing. Actually was thinking of checking out the '11 Treg - great deals right now. Might be all Porsche SUV'd out after the last two...just the thought of the $250 oil change it needs right now gives me the annoyed feeling.

Thanks mudman. The issue is that it does not happen all the time, only when it's cold - after warmup it goes away. Confirmed that this morning. Does that still mean it could be the cardan shaft?

PS - I noticed you are in SE PA, where are you? I grew up there.

Good info - I had not heard about the Curt Hitch, only the expensive install for the OEM one via the archives. I will read more about it. I'll be towing a small boat so I need the full wiring.

And yes, I will be warranty naked in less than 30 days. That's why I am asking a lot of questions!

Hello all,

Decided to do my first post since I just got my 2006 CS Titanium Edition in Iceland Silver back in Sept. It was a surprise for my 40th bday (guess I need to be good to the wifey lol). Anyways just want to say hello and thanks to this forum for all the useful info that it has!

I installed the OEM hitch on mine, and I'm glad I did. I found a guy selling it for $100 + shipping with the wiring, but he didn't guarantee the harness would work (it didn't). So I bought a new harness from the dealer for maybe $100, and found a local PIWIS owner to code it for me. The LED lights thing was solved with a $15 adapter from U-Haul.

$2,000 from the dealer installed... or $250 plus a saturday morning DIY.

I recently saw two or three guys selling the OEM bumper/hitch assemblies online recently for about the same price as the Curts. For some reason, people seem to want to get rid of them.

They are very heavy maybe the reason, there's no market for the lightweight one I took off to put my Curt on, still sitting in the back of my garage
