"A Porsche is gonna pull me out?"

There was an accident on the Freeway this morning that was blocking the entrance ramp. So I raised the hieght to SP Terrain and drove over the narrow snow covered median (hard snow that had been plowed). I then watched a ~15 year old Chev 1/2 ton 4X4 try the same thing only in an area with more snow. He got high centered. I stop and offer to pull him out. Him: "A Porsche is gonna pull me out?" Me: "Ya no problem, I'll throw it in 4 low!" Him: Puzzled look on face.
It was no problem. He was quite thank full and surprised that I would help (must have been the Porsche and I was wearing a suit, dress shoes and overcoat).

Classic.
So what's the short version of how to shift into 4WD Low? I've only been in the snow once in mine - and I remember a bus was sliding backwards down a hill we were on. I had to pull out the manual and try to figure out the left rocker switch. Wasn't intuitive, as I recall...

For 4lo, I did not read the manual, I just figured it out. I had tried it out previously on one of my job sites. Shift to neutral, apply parking brake, slide left rocker switch (in center consol) forward towards the mountian. Slide a second time to lock front diff.

I guess that sounds familiar now... what does the first flip of the rocker switch do?
I just remember seeing some little square light up and thinking let's see what this does.

I had to help some poor guy in a 3/4ton Chev who got stuck on one of the many off-road trails i take my Cayenne down. They are the greatest off-road vehicles ever, it blows the pants off the jeeps broncos etc i see on the same trails and even beats the pants off the Range Rover.
I actually have quite a good handful of pictures like this, now if only i could find some more.

we should sticky a thread like this to collect these outrageous pictures

"even beats the pants off the Range Rover".
I'll take exception to this. My family has a cattle ranch on the Big Sur coast - off-road paradise. Our 2008 Range Rover with OE all-season tires is far more capable than my 2009 GTS with Pirelli ATR tires was, without exception. The GTS requires more skill to drive off-road (throttle modulation vs. momentum!); albeit, it is a lot more fun to drive off-road. Nothing like heel-toeing in 4-Lo between 2 - 5th gears on a narrow dirt road, and never exceeding 30 mph.

bgsntth, true enough, the range is easier to drive off-road, but the cayenne is much more fun, that and the range rover, after they dropped their BMW platforms became so miserably finicky that I wouldn't bother with one.

The thud you all heard was LTC falling out of his chair...
