Default Coils went bad. quick question.

After replacing the coils the dealer recommends changing the oil and spark plugs. BS or do should I have them done. Coils were covered under cpo, should the plugs and oil change be cover as well??

No, they would not be covered - plugs and oil change are maintenance items and not a warranty issue.

I don't think they changed mine. IMO, wait until the next interval.

i would have them change the spark plugs. As for the oil are you due for a change based on your current milage from your last oil change? I have mine change every 6K the book I think said every 15K.....

+1. Oil change, not necessarily unless you're due.

Ask your dealer how much he charges for an oil change before saying yes. You may need a defibrillator to recover afterwards..

Love it!

So dealer replaces coils under warranty. And to do this, he took everything off between him and the coils. Of course the other end of the coils is the plugs themselves, which are now just sitting there in the light of day, looking around at each other wondering if they're going to be changed, probably asking each other how the other cylinders are looking.

Sure enough, dealer swaps out the coils, wraps it all back up neatly, and closes the warranty ticket. Then dealer says to customer: hey, we should probably do your plugs next. The book says 2 hours. Plus $40/plug. And I predict that if you said yes, he might actually have recommended changing the coils again, considering there plugs were new...

If this was the new warranty fix for older coils, I would have just asked them to hand me all 8, ordered plugs from Sunset on the way home, and replaced them myself. The DIYs on here walk you through everything.

no matter what, even if the the coils were replaced and torn down, they would still charge you standard labor recommended so you wont save any money unless you agree ahead of time with the dealer they will just charge parts and a reduced labor rate......get in writing too....

Update! got the car back running great! Asked for the old plugs... service rep heads back to the shop returns few minutes later to tell me the cleaning crew must have thrown them away! They said car was finished up on a Saturday just before closing. Called me monday to pick up the car. Sunday's crew must have tossed them... will I ever know??? If the 500 dollar repair was even done?? This was at a stealership afterall.

just for kicks and giggles, did they charge you the full labor for changing the plugs?
if 500 was your end of the bill, sure sounds like it.
it would be interesting to see a double billing, warranty and customer, justified by the manager.
