how about looking at it this way...
the tech's book says they completed 4 hours of labor in 2 hours, not only saving the customer 2 hours of sitting in the waiting room but possibly 2 hours of driving(roundtrip) if you had come back for an oil change on another date.
you saved 4 hours!!! and it only cost you 2 hours in cash.
assuming your time per hour is more valuable then the shop labor rate you are ahead of the game.

$350 for an oil change is competitive? Just had it done in the Twin Cities by my dealer for $114 (Carrera). You need an indie for routine service or you'll have to put up with the flat rate blues.

At my old dealership I used to stop at a bakery and bring in a dozen rolls for my service appointments; got treated like a king. One time another customer was getting written up by the SA when I brought in my goodies and asked me if that was necessary, I said "only if you want good service". SA and techs loved it...

I know, I'm a jerk

If you live in the Chicagoland area I have found this to be the best place to take my '06 Cayenne TT

$170.00 for an oil change

Homemade Belgian waffles do the trick, too.

$191 for oil change at my new indie. Not bad considering it includes $72 for oil, and $21 for a filter.

It's always a challenge though as my service manager is a fitness guy and doesn't eat rolls/doughnuts. That and there are 25+ techs...

If you change your own oil it significantly cheaper. It is an easy job to do and you also get the satisfaction that it was done correctly and the proper oil installed. Worst part is taking the oil to the parts store to be disposed.

Prime Porsche has about the same hourly rate, but I'm not sure that the "concept" of an hourly rate is a valid one, when you can make up the number of hours.

I mean why not just give me a bargain and charge me only $20/hour, but just charge 10 hours for each hour that my car is there because "that's just how we do it."

I decided the right thing to do was to call Aaron, the nice guy who in in charge of the service department, and just let him know that I was personally disappointed by the experience, but he hasn't as of yet returned my call.

He's a real mench and I might be living in a fantasy world, but I think he wants clients to be satisfied. Again, this isn't about the money....that's not what I'm looking for here...

Steve, my 911 friends pay this amount all the time and don't even blink an eye when doing it. When I asked them about it, their comment was one of "If you want to own a Porsche, that's what it costs to maintain it". Whether I can easily afford a $350 oil change or not, I personally have a hard time paying this kind of money for roughly $150 - $200 worth of service.

How does that saying go? Square peg, round hole?

Some people are willing to endure a lot of abuse to be seen driving a Porsche...

What are the respective labor rates in your area? There can't be that much difference in materials... can there?

Approximately $125/hr in Montreal
Mobil 1 runs about $10.50/litre ($11.03/quart) individually-packaged & not in bulk price
Filter cartridge?
Oil Pan drain plug gaskets?
Environmental fees?

What, about $125-$150 in total materials?

I just changed the oil in our '09 Boxster. Filter, o-ring and crush washer were $40 at the dealer, after 10% PCA discount. Mobil 1 at Autozone was $85. I asked the local dealer service advisor what was involved in a 1-year service and he said basically an oil change..... for $300! So that's why I change it myself. I keep 3 large 25-quart oil containers for recycling and take them to Autozone twice a year. I use an independent for some work on the 928 GTS, but never the dealer, except for annual state inspections.
