Gentlemen:
I am curious as to your opinions as to what percentage of the cost of the original modification![burnout](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/burnout.gif)
is recaptured on resale.

About zero...you might even Get less than one that is stock. If you want your money back keep your stock stuff and part out your mods before you sell. Dealers don't like nodded cars because of warranty concerns and in general, a car that has been modded is a dead giveaway for one that has been driven harder. You almost never get any money back for anything you've done. To be generous I would say maybe 25-35% back. I've done it many, many times and now I part it out instead because I never got any money back...especially with wheels.

I reckon -25% to 10%. Depends on the mods.
I found with my LR3, which was significantly modded for off-road touring, that the dealers were offering trades of 20-25% below the trade for a clean one. They even told me to rip the gear off to get a better deal.
Privately, there was a market for the modded car, but a very reduced one as there were limited buyers out there for a modded vehicle. I had to wait longer for the sale (and ended up getting 62% higher than the best trade-in offer!). The issue with waiting is the car isn't getting younger and the miles aren't reducing - thus the value is going south).

Quattrotman said it perfectly. When I look for a used car (which is a rarity), mods are a big turn off for me. It tells me that the car is driven hard ... although these cars like to be driven hard the "right way".
