Angry Check Engine Light

My daughter filled up the Pepper and didn't get the gas cap on tight. Now it's running rough and the light is on. If I give it full power the light will flash but quit when power is reduced. Do you think this was a coincidence? Any ideas on how to fix this other than taking it to the dealer which is 120 miles away.

She told me 91. That's what goes in all the cars so probably true should still run OK on 87. or not at all on die

We've had the gas cap issue in the past, but the car didn't run roughly and the CEL never flashed. It goes away after a couple of days.

Do you smell anything that smells like burning sulpher? I'm asking because this is common when coil packs go bad, and your car's symptoms sound like a bad coil pack to me.

Dennis, I guess you finally got your wife trained?? Or did you have to take back the Pepper as your DD?

No smells but I think you are right the coil is a leading suspect. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but it seems odd that all this happened at the same time. Thanks for the reply. P.S. Evergreen is one of the great places on the planet.

Usually a flashing CEL indicates a misfire, which in this case, would most likely be one of the coils. I'd find someone with an OBDII scanner to see what it reads for codes.

Her gas cap training finally seems to have paid off... we've had no CEL for a long time.
