2006 Turbo snow tire options?
I have one set of rims, 20" Sport Technos with summer tires on it now. With winter on the way, do I go with 20" snow tires, or better off with 18" rims and snow tires?
Trying to find the best balance between cost and effectiveness.
TIA

Try to get a barely used 18 inch wheel/tire combo. I am expecting a 2011 Cayenne S in Jan. I just bought a 18 inch Cayenne Turbo wheel with Pirelli's ice/snow (one season old) for $ 1100.00 plus shipping for my winter set up. The vehicle is custom order with 20 inch RS spyder's on summer performance tires.

That seems to be the consensus
Has anyone run 20" snow tires? I'm curious how successful they are...
I'm considering a Michelin Latitude Alpin, in Size: 275/40R20.
Not ideal, but $800 for a set.

I've run both. Initially, I had (4) 18" aftermarket wheels with Pirelli Ice & Snows. They were great. Then, I got an awesome deal on some 20" Pirelli Ice & Snows on Sport Technos, which were powder-coated black. I live in Montana; plenty of Ice and Snow here. I found little to no difference in the two set-ups, other than the look.
I have no experience with the Michelins but have loved both sets of Pirelli's.
Good luck.

Munchdog, I ran the Pirelli Ice and Snow in a 17" size on my previous truck and I also run them on my wife's ML320 in a 17" size and they run great in snow as well as ice/black ice. As you probably know, our Canadian winters can be pretty nasty at times.
I also just recently picked up a new set in 275/40/20 N-spec for my GTS which, if the weather continues like this, will be installed rather quickly! Go with the Pirellis as you won't regret it.
BTW, as odd as it may seem and after shopping a few tire shops, the best price I got was from the Porsche dealer. Go figure...

I have ran the scorpion snow and ice and they seem to have a little better speed performance which meant the snow was ok.
Now I have the Blizzak DM-V1 which have a pretty deep soft tread, so they are a little squirmy on dry, but do well in the snow and slush.
For my driving in Chicago I deal with way more slush then packed snow.

My past experience with Blizzaks was like yours Jim. They're excellent in snow & ice however very mushy in warmer and drier winters and, at the high cost that they run, they wear the fastest.
