Hey guys,

I have a 2004 Porsche Cayenne S (automatic) and have recently noticed that from time to time it starts in D1 (drive 1)…Which normally I would not think was a problem, but I have gotten so used to my Cayenne starting in D2 that it feels awkward…

Now I know Cayenne’s are made to start in D2 and I’m wondering why all of a sudden from time to time it is starting in D1…

Any answer would be appreciated

When it's cold it will start in D1 to get the car warmed up faster to keep emissions low.

I'm not sure whether it's engine oil temp, transmission temp, coolant temp, or exhaust temperature that effects it.

When in Sport Mode, the truck always launches in 1st gear.
